A beautiful summer day in Mayfield should never be wasted, even if they're all beautiful. So, why not stop by the pool for some food, drinks and games? And of course, swimming.

[It's a party! It's an excuse to further hone her snack-making skills! So there's Dakki, occasionally stopping by to fuss with the paper cups and mix more fruit punch and set out more little sandwiches.

Only occasionally. There's a pool to splash around in.]

[Picks up a little sandwich.]

"What's in these?"

Ah? Those ones? [She leans in a little closer, appraises the sandwich in Cade's hand, and beams.]

Cucumber and cream cheese! It's very nice.

[Cade takes a bite.]

"Mmm... its good."

I'm glad you like it! It's one of my favorites. I found the recipe in one of the cookbooks from the library.

[ Ilsa is replenishing the ice under the vegetable snacks, and placing the extra net tents she brought over some of the items getting the attention of the flies. ]

Looks good - I also have a few watermelons on ice in the shade for later.

Ooh, watermelons! I hadn't even thought about that. Thank you, Ilsa!

[How wonderful that Ilsa was helping out. She was so much better at this stuff.]

These aren't spiked, that's for the parents' back-to-school party.

[ Ilsa chuckles, partially in jest. ]

Spiked? [Now she looks a bit confused. Also a bit curious.] You can 'spike' a watermelon? But... how?

Same way someone'll spike the punch at Homecoming. Only with the watermelon, it's more controlled, because you're adding just one type of liquor to the melon. It makes for pretty good watermelon margaritas.

But it's... solid, right? Or mostly. How do you get the liquor and the fruit to stay together?

You need space in the refrigerator tall enough for the watermelon and the liquor bottle, and a day or two to prepare - both are reasons why not many people do it. Carve out the stem end of the melon, just big enough for the neck of the bottle, and invert the bottle into the hole. Then you leave it in the fridge for a day or so to let the liquor filter into the melon.

Ohhhhhh... oh, now I see! You can really do that? That's fantastic! And a bit of effort, but... but that's nice! I'll have to remember that!

Like I said, not many people have the patience for it, but if you choose a good liquor, it's a nice occasional treat.

[ Ilsa chuckles. ] My family might have one once a year, for Independence Day. We usually need it after the water-hazard volleyball.

Melons are usually a summer fruit, right? So of course you'd have it at a summer party! ...we're almost out of summer, aren't we?

[Dakki laughs as well.] What's water-hazard volleyball?

Oh! So you made it as well?

[Dakki looks quite surprised to see him there. He hadn't previously seemed to be the party sort. It's not an unpleasant surprise, though.]

I did! Quinn was planning it, and I always seem to end up helping out whenever Quinn plans a party.

Ah, that's the fellow's name? Hm! I wasn't going to come at first... but I figured, why not?

Mmhmm! Quinn's always planning all kinds of parties. And he brings music, too! He has all kinds of equipment and things from home.

[She laughs a bit, then holds up a finger to indicate that he ought to wait a moment. Then she turns back to the table, puts a few things on a plate for him, and offers it.]

Here! Since you're here, you might as well have something to eat. I made the sandwiches!

[...he HAD once said that he had to eat, right?]

Sounds like a real party animal. Heh.

-He blinked and looked after her, when she turned to the table. His head tilted to the side in curiosity.-

Ah. Thank you.

-He took the plate and picked up the sandwich and took a bite. He didn't seem to mind it as he took another bite of it.-

I really think he is!

[More laughter! It struck her as funny, to actually have Quinn's party tendencies pointed out.

...and oh, he liked the sandwich? Good! Very good! It was so nice when people liked her cooking.]

It's one of the things I learned how to make while I was here. And I learned to make those ones while I was still human! So I know for sure that they taste good.

-He grinned and nodded, as he decided to finish what was on his plate. It didn't take long, and he looked around, wondering what to do with the plate.-

I guess I haven't bothered with cooking.

...does someone in your house cook for you? Or is there a drone instead of the, um, "wife?"

[It's a question she hadn't thought to ask before. She hadn't thought much at all about what kind of home situation Dynamo had ended up with.]

Yeah. Her name is ... Esther. She spends most of her time in the church... and well, so does the one kid. Other kid seems something of a rebel, I can't say I've really stopped to get to know them.

Oh. Sounds like you've got a full house, then.

[His answer strikes her as a little strange, and it shows on her face. How could you not get to know the people you're sharing a house with? Unthinkable, to a friendly CAST like Dakki!]

You're lucky to have nice people in your house... I suppose I'm lucky, too. I'm here with a co-worker, and we've got a nice nekomata staying with us, too. The kids are drones, though.
