A beautiful summer day in Mayfield should never be wasted, even if they're all beautiful. So, why not stop by the pool for some food, drinks and games? And of course, swimming.

Ooh, watermelons! I hadn't even thought about that. Thank you, Ilsa!

[How wonderful that Ilsa was helping out. She was so much better at this stuff.]

These aren't spiked, that's for the parents' back-to-school party.

[ Ilsa chuckles, partially in jest. ]

Spiked? [Now she looks a bit confused. Also a bit curious.] You can 'spike' a watermelon? But... how?

[ooeeooahah]

Same way someone'll spike the punch at Homecoming. Only with the watermelon, it's more controlled, because you're adding just one type of liquor to the melon. It makes for pretty good watermelon margaritas.

But it's... solid, right? Or mostly. How do you get the liquor and the fruit to stay together?

[ooeeooahah]

You need space in the refrigerator tall enough for the watermelon and the liquor bottle, and a day or two to prepare - both are reasons why not many people do it. Carve out the stem end of the melon, just big enough for the neck of the bottle, and invert the bottle into the hole. Then you leave it in the fridge for a day or so to let the liquor filter into the melon.

Ohhhhhh... oh, now I see! You can really do that? That's fantastic! And a bit of effort, but... but that's nice! I'll have to remember that!

Like I said, not many people have the patience for it, but if you choose a good liquor, it's a nice occasional treat.

[ Ilsa chuckles. ] My family might have one once a year, for Independence Day. We usually need it after the water-hazard volleyball.

Melons are usually a summer fruit, right? So of course you'd have it at a summer party! ...we're almost out of summer, aren't we?

[Dakki laughs as well.] What's water-hazard volleyball?

Volleyball with lawn sprinklers. If your team runs away with the points, you get ALL the sprayers pointed on your side of the court!

Oooooh... that sounds very wet.

[She laughs, and fusses a bit more with the napkins and the paper cups. After a bit of uncertain silence, she speaks again with a little more softness in her voice.]

...I'm glad to see you made it back okay from the fun house. I'm sorry I didn't manage to keep up with you.

[ooeeooahah]

[ Ilsa shakes her head. ] They would have separated us somehow, if they needed to. You weren't in the pocket Mayfield were you?

They did separate us... first you from Tarvek and I, and then Tarvek from me.... I went back in, but just kept getting routed back out. I never made it to...wherever it was that everyone went.

I'm sorry.

[ooeeooahah]

Don't be - the whole thing was a set-up, you know that.

[ Ilsa touches Dakki's arm, briefly giving her a touch of reassurance. ]

I'm glad you didn't have to go through what I did.

A set-up or not, we should have been facing that set-up together. The entire way.

[Dakki offers a small smile at the touch, but it's not completely reassured.]

I'm sorry that you had to go through that.

There's been worse times here. But also a load of better times. Everything here seems okay for now, why don't you go circulate?
