PROM, PART 2

Who: Everyone!
What: Mayfield Prom
Where: Rec Center
When: May 18 starting at 7:00PM
Warnings: ...Mayfield Prom.

The log will be split into two entries to keep the size manageable. In this thread is the Stage, Wallflowers and King & Queen ceremony!

---

Because he can't stop himself from making a movie reference, the theme of this year's Prom is "Enchantment Under the Sea". (Don't get too freaked out, Marty McFly.) Equipment has been moved out, seating has been set near tables and walls, and a makeshift stage has been constructed to host the DJing equipment. Quinn has music up until 2010, so a large variety of music will get played. There's plenty of food and drinks - including spiked, and very-much-not-spiked punch (magically protected, thanks to Ilsa). In a corner is a small set up for people who wish to get their photos taken by Tsukasa.

The party is under way - have yourselves a good time, Mayfield!

[ Oh, partner. Always so cheery. Juliet side-eyes him in mild reproach for a moment, a somewhat standard reaction of hers whenever he's being a bit on the grumpy side. Which is fairly often. But as usual, she lets it slide and shrugs soon after, smiling as she sweeps her gaze across the throngs of people having a good time. ]

Well, I think it's been fun. It's nice to see people having a good time for once. You're right, though, it does looks like everything's fine, but we should probably stay a little longer. Just to make sure.

[ And because she hasn't had a chance to stop by the food tables yet. But that's not the point, really. ]
detectivedipstick: (nyeeeeer)

[personal profile] detectivedipstick 2012-05-21 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ he leans against the wall a bit, surveying the crowd.
Note to self: See if Marlowe enjoys going out to dance, providing you can get back to Santa Barbara. ]

Mm, doesn't look like anything was tampered with either, and I hardly doubt having two left feet would be a significant crime, not that we have jurisdiction to make any arrests.

[ a pause. ] Well, I suppose we could make citizen's arrests if worst comes to worst. If nothing else... [ He reaches behind him to retrieve the Glock secured within his belt. ] I have this.
littleblonderiddle: (● good point there)

[personal profile] littleblonderiddle 2012-05-21 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ Juliet shoots another glance at him, torn between wry amusement and exasperation as she wonders whether her partner would ever find anything positive to say about his fellow people. But she figures she already knows the answer to that question. ]

Yeah. So far I haven't really been able to glean any new information out of the people I've spoken with tonight, either - though this one girl did give me the scoop on where to go for good manicures.

[ She smiles cheerfully, because that was a good tip. Her smile is replaced by a look of astonishment as Carlton pulls out the Glock, before she frowns. ]

Wha-- where did you get that?

[ She wants one, too. ]
detectivedipstick: (Eh - No big deal.)

[personal profile] detectivedipstick 2012-05-22 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Post Office, turns out the little scare-tactic about how the postman trades limbs for items from home was nothing but a load of crap. [ He gives the gun a once over before arming it. ] Fully loaded too, just how I left it.
littleblonderiddle: (● please don't make me watch this)

[personal profile] littleblonderiddle 2012-05-22 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Juliet looks exasperated once more - for a different reason this time - even if not at all surprised. She knows Carlton's tendency to whip out his service weapon in front of civilians. Or at them, more often than not. ]

That's great, but you should probably put it away now. We don't want some civilian to catch you handling a loaded gun and starting a wave of panic if they draw all the wrong conclusions about it.

[ She frowns. ] Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you seem like your normal self, but how can you be sure the postman didn't take something less noticeable instead?
detectivedipstick: (You're in over your head mystic)

[personal profile] detectivedipstick 2012-05-22 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. [ and back into the confines of his belt it goes! ]

...And don't be ridiculous, O'Hara. Given our profession and how I've spent the last several years as a detective, I would know if anything seemed the slightest out of place.
littleblonderiddle: (● what kind of logic is that)

[personal profile] littleblonderiddle 2012-05-22 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay... [ It's said slowly, while she's scrutinizing him closely as if looking for anything out of the ordinary. ] If you say so, Carlton.

[ She pauses for a moment, but can't quite leave it be just yet. She's just making certain, okay. ] But you're sure, then? You're feeling alright?
detectivedipstick: (You are so full of shit.)

[personal profile] detectivedipstick 2012-05-22 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm sure! [ He looks at her exasperated and counts off everything with his fingers. ]

I have all my limbs intact. There's not a mark on me to signify a kidney or other organs were removed. AND since Adrian Viccellio is doing hard time in a California prison I'm fairly certain I wasn't subjected to another amateur phlebotomy.

Are we satisfied now, O'Hara?
littleblonderiddle: (● too much information)

[personal profile] littleblonderiddle 2012-05-23 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Juliet lifts her hands in a placating gesture, palms outward. ]

Okay, okay! No need to get testy, I was just making sure. Can you really blame me with all the weird things going on in here? Anyway, glad to hear at least that story seems to be just an urban legend.

[ Though she still has some lingering doubts, she's not going to push the issue. ] Did anything about the post office appear suspicious to you, otherwise?
detectivedipstick: (Thinking...)

[personal profile] detectivedipstick 2012-05-24 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He pauses for a moment to think back. ] Other than the postman being eerily cheery like the rest of the people that live here, not really.

Asked how the family was, made me sign a slip of paper that was covered with stamps, done. [ a shrug. ] But that doesn't necessarily mean something's out of place there.

It doesn't look like we'll get a lot of answers other than 'This is the greatest place to live!' from them anyway.
littleblonderiddle: (● like i'll buy that)

[personal profile] littleblonderiddle 2012-05-25 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't necessarily mean there isn't anything out of place in there, either.

[ She sighs, her expression conveying both frustration and resignation. ]

But I'm inclined to agree, it seems like trying to get to the bottom of things with these natives is a waste of time. I'm starting to doubt they have the brain capacity for anything but platitudes and smiles. It's creepy.

[ She's quiet for a moment, thinking. ] We should look for alternatives that don't involve the people, strictly speaking. Another trip to the City Hall, maybe the library? There has to be some physical evidence about the state of things somewhere, some kind of archives or records.
detectivedipstick: (When did I say that?)

[personal profile] detectivedipstick 2012-05-28 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Good plan. We'll have to be careful though, another detective here mentioned that one is brainwashed as a punishment if they're caught doing something they don't like.

[ He then scowls a little bit, thinking. ]

I get the feeling that if there is actually proof in the archives and records of the town, they probably don't want anyone finding it.

[ He then looks at O'Hara, a slight smirk on his face. ]

So what do you say partner? Look for this stuff and meet up somewhere private afterward?
littleblonderiddle: (● that's not how i heard it)

[personal profile] littleblonderiddle 2012-05-29 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ She returns the smirk with one of her own, nodding in agreement. ]

I say 'when do we start'? Yeah, we could meet up in a few days and compare notes, see what we have on this place so far, I think we're overdue for a meeting anyway. You're probably right though, anything discriminating is probably hidden behind some serious lock and key.

[ She glances up at him solemnly. ]

It's safe to say whoever is responsible wouldn't take the risk of blowing the lid on an operation of this magnitude by leaving anything in plain sight.
detectivedipstick: (something doesn't add up here)

[personal profile] detectivedipstick 2012-05-30 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
If it was left in plain sight, I'm pretty certain that there'd be hell to pay for the idiot who did the sloppy job. [ Carlton gives a slight grimace as he observes the dance floor again. ] There's nothing I wouldn't do to have jurisdiction here so we could get a search warrant if necessary.

As for meeting up, think Kenobi would have an issue of us commandeering the dining area at your house? We could use mine, but I don't feel like we should be in the company of the drones.
littleblonderiddle: (● okay fine i'll roll with it)

[personal profile] littleblonderiddle 2012-05-31 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
These guys are definitely not sloppy, I'll give them that.

[ She purses her lips pensively, silently in agreement with Carlton's assessment as she watches the couples on the dance floor having a good time. At his question, she glances up. ]

I can't see why he would. But I'll ask him later tonight, if I can. It shouldn't be a problem, though, he's very accommodating and polite.
