[Kyon came into his house to sit on the couch after school, Haruhi not far behind. He took a glance at the flowers on the table. They'd just turned up yesterday out of the blue, like many things do in Mayfield. ... They didn't have that fragrance before now though, did they?]

As much as he didn't care for school here, Kyon did indeed go today, as missing multiple days in a row was generally a bad idea. Noticing that Haruhi wasn't there at all, he drops by her house first thing after school...

Knock, knock...

She was sitting on the couch, dozing off – as there wasn’t much to do. She felt melancholy, and her sixth sense told her to not open that door, but then again, she was bored.

Boredom was more of a disease than love was here, even if there were a batch of interesting people in this town. It was like having time travelers, espers, sliders, and aliens all bunched up in one place! Some of what was true. As she placed her hand on the doorknob, she hesitated –

What if she was wrong?

After a small sigh, Haruhi turned the doorknob, still dressed in her pajamas: a yellow tank top with matching colored loose pants. She was, of course, also wearing plain sandals to match. When the door opened, Haruhi’s mouth gaped slightly, though she wasn’t mad.

At least, she wasn’t mad at Kyon. She was mad at herself.

“Kyon…”

"... Yo. What's up?" Kyon stood there, wearing his North High uniform. Not that it was really necessary, but he just felt better about going to school if he wore something to make it a bit more like home.

“What do you think?” Haruhi replied, pouting as she crossed her arms. She wasn’t exactly pleased that she was right about the fact that Kyon was coming, nor was she happy about what happened in the two days before.

It was obvious, wasn’t it?

"Right, so uh..." Kyon trailed off a little. 'I should've thought about what I'd say before I came here...' he thought to himself.

[extraordinarily]

“What?” Haruhi gave her usual glare, folding her arms as she spoke. “If you don’t have anything to say, then leave.”

[slave_of_suzumiya]

"You weren't at school today."

Well, that's a subject, right?

[extraordinarily]

Haruhi is silent at that for a few seconds before sighing and giving her hair a flip. “Of course I wasn’t. What do you think I am, stupid? I didn’t go because I realized something.”

And if Kyon asks what that something is, well. This subject might get awkward.

He lets out a sigh...

"Oh? And what kind of epiphany did you have?"

[extraordinarily]

“The flowers wilted.” She points to the vase behind her, on the table.

[slave_of_suzumiya]

"... An astute observation." Kyon replies deadpan at this obvious statement.

[extraordinarily]

Haruhi frowns that that, pouting once again at her fellow brigade member. “That isn’t what I mean.”

[slave_of_suzumiya]

"So, what do you mean then?"

[extraordinarily]

Her voice is low as she speaks, and she seems… a bit downcast. “You should put the pieces together by yourself.”

[slave_of_suzumiya]

"Which pieces?" Kyon is a tough nut to crack.

[extraordinarily]

"The dates, this place, the flowers wilting." That's all she's going to say. No more hints, Kyon. Figure it out on your own!

[slave_of_suzumiya]

"Right, it was some kind of Valentine's thing then, so?" He sighs.

[extraordinarily]

She immediately puts her hand out. "You owe me for cooking twice."

[slave_of_suzumiya]

"H-hey, hold it! W-what!?" What the hell does she expect? Money!?

[extraordinarily]

"You don't expect me to cook for you for free, do you?" At least, if she was in the right state of mind.

[slave_of_suzumiya]

"You can't ask for payment retroactively!" he objected.

[extraordinarily]

"Tsk, tsk, tsk," Haruhi replied, waving a finger around. "You forget that I'm your brigade chief!"

[slave_of_suzumiya]

"I don't care if you're the queen of England, I'm not paying you."

[extraordinarily]

"Why not?!" Haruhi whined, placing her hands on her hips.

[slave_of_suzumiya]

"There was no stipulation at the time of the event, which thus means that you can't impose it now." Kyon replied firmly.
