[closed] it's the perfect time of day
Who: Jim Kirk & Aria T'Loak
What: failing at even basic domestic tasks.
Where: 3476 Erwin Road
When: August 8.
Warnings: possible unsavoury language and slightly alcoholic tendencies from Aria.
Waking up to some sort of massive plumbing issue wasn't something Jim was exactly used to, but after a few moments of staring at it in confusion - and missing every Engineer he'd ever known more than he would ever admit (where was Scotty when you really needed him?) - he decided he could fix it. Never mind that he didn't know the first thing about antique plumbing. He was supposed to be capable and competent and Aria certainly wasn't any better off in terms of how to fix it.
So after a quick breakfast and calling into work to advise he wouldn't be in, Jim started on a little diagnostic plan, starting upstairs and working down to the basement. About ten minutes into that basement work, he was calling upstairs.
"Aria! Aria, I need help down here, please."
And when his dear wife came down, hopefully she wouldn't be too surprised to find him up to his knees in water.

"You turned the basement into a pool."
Well, hopefully there hadn't been anything important that was easily water damaged. But she'll walk to the edge of where the stairs meets the water and shake her head.

"Any idea where the main water valve is? I'd start there." Logic was her only default, she wasn't even too sure what metal the pipe was made of.
no subject
"Main valve thingy is over there. It's now not sealing properly, before you go investigating."
no subject
Turning around to look at him she put a hand over her eyes and shook her head.
"I'm out of ideas. How the hell did you break the main water valve?"
no subject
This being the pool effect, of course.

"And people wonder why I can't stand humans," she muttered to herself while trying to think of a solution. The only one she could think of involved waiting until tomorrow morning and spending the rest of the evening enjoying their basement pool with a drink.

She'll push past him and climb the stairs easily, disappearing for a few moments before reappearing at the top of the stairs with a bottle in hand. It wasn't the best solution but at least this way they could sit and try to think of a way to attempt to fix the piping that Kirk had only managed to make worse. Having a seat on the steps she held out the bottle to him with a raised eyebrow.

"I knew there was a reason I liked you," Jim said with a grin, as he settled on the step one below Aria, angled slightly to look at her. "You're great at problem solving."

"And you should know that you don't look a day over six hundred and thirty," Jim continued, handing Aria's bottle back to her.
no subject
"You can hate me as much as you want, you wouldn't be the first." She smirked and couldn't help but chuckle at Kirk's words concerning her age. Taking the bottle back from him she took a swig and pointed at him with the bottle in hand.
"Most humans would say I didn't look a day over thirty to them. If that were the case I'd be much less cynical."
no subject
"And you haven't done anything worthy of too much hatred, not to me. It would be wrong to hate a lady on hearsay."
no subject
But she did have to give Kirk props for giving her the benefit of the doubt. She certainly hadn't been making life easy on him.
"You're a first, most people hate me just on my reputation," her lips pulled back into a smooth smirk.

Jim wasn't going to pry into that comment on her adolescence. Circumstances were a thing he knew all too well, and they were things that were only discussed with time. Aria didn't need those buttons pushed, not from him, not right now.
Taking another drink from the bottle, he held onto it a moment, almost contemplating, before handing it back to her.

"I'm not the goody-two-shoes soldier that's out to save the galaxy or defend it. Just out there to protect what's mine."
no subject
"It takes all sorts, doesn't it? So although I may not agree with your style or your methods, there's not much I can really say." He looked back at her again, hands spread out. "You are who you are. I respect that."
no subject
"Galaxy is a big place, guess we all have our niche and specialities. Just don't start going self righteous on me when I shoot people."
no subject
"Not sure I'm the right person to be preaching and self-righteous to anyone, hate to tell you," Kirk said, pausing to take a drink. "The hero act is just a front for... well, someone who is not entirely sure which way he's going yet."
no subject
"You're young, you'll figure out where you're going. Either that or it'll slap you in the head when you least expect it. I was in the same place about three centuries ago. Quit being a commando, decided to be an exotic dancer for a few years until I could figure it out, ended up taking over a space station from some old krogan that thought the pretty asari would never try to take away his precious crown." Aria shook her head and poked Kirk in the leg with her toes. "You try to play it clean, I'm just one of those people that gave up playing nice a long time ago."
no subject
"Bet you were a great dancer, though, before you decided to fuck everyone up."
no subject
"But I can say I was good at my job. As hard as it can be dancing on tables barely dressed." She scoffed and took another swig, those were times she really wasn't fond of remembering. "I prefer my new line of work, much better. I think it suits me."
no subject
"Crime lord's probably your calling, really."

"So, Kirk. Tell me about yourself; you don't seem like the kind to often flood basements often."

"Starfleet is designed as equal parts exploration and peacekeeping. Something happens, we jump in. But mostly we're the forerunners of human and human allies voyaging into the universe. The politics... well, they're whatever you make of 'em."
