PROM, PART 2

Because he can't stop himself from making a movie reference, the theme of this year's Prom is "Enchantment Under the Sea". (Don't get too freaked out, Marty McFly.) Equipment has been moved out, seating has been set near tables and walls, and a makeshift stage has been constructed to host the DJing equipment. Quinn has music up until 2010, so a large variety of music will get played. There's plenty of food and drinks - including spiked, and very-much-not-spiked punch (magically protected, thanks to Ilsa). In a corner is a small set up for people who wish to get their photos taken by Tsukasa.

The party is under way - have yourselves a good time, Mayfield!

[Jenny doesn't like her fun ruined, not that she's really having much fun anyway.]

Alright Masters, let's go take a walk.

[Cade nods.]

"Okay!

Where we walking to?"

[She shrugs]

Who knows, we'll get there when we get there though.

[Cade nods and follows along.]

"Alright, lead on."

[Cade thinks Jenny is the type who likes to feel in charge, so he'll let her figure this one out.]

[The funny part about that is that Cade would be dead wrong about that. Jenny's just used to being thrown into that area after 100 years of it happening to her.

She leads him up to the roof, to the edge before sitting down and dangling a leg over. She leans back against the wall and stairs up at the stars, offering up the bottle.]

You seem to be adjusting well.

"To what? This town? This actually isn't the first time I've been trapped in a city with all kinds of weird stuff going on."

[Cade takes the bottle and sits next to her, taking a swig.]

Really?

[The brow raises again as she takes the bottle and drinks some.]

Do tell Masters.

"Well, back when its just Vadim and myself, a lady friend of mine asked me to look into what happened to her brother. He was supposed to travel to the town of Turien on business and return home within a tenday. He hadn't returned, and she couldn't close up shop to go look for him, so she asked me to go find him..."

[Jenny closed her eyes and swung her leg, listening to his story.]

"So we follow the road there, and it got foggy. Really, really, foggy. So foggy, I couldn't even find Vadim anymore, and he had been standing right next to me! For hours, I wandered about in the unnatural mists, not even sure what way I was walking."

[A small smile curled over her lips.]

Brigadoon.

"Hah, I wish! We've the story of Brigadoon where I'm from too, and this place was not so nice.
Though I have met elves claiming that such a place as Brigadoon actually exists..."

[Her brows narrowed in thought.]

You have a suspicious number of similar stories in your world.

"Yeah, I noticed that. I've also gathered (from talking to many different people of Earth) that many towns that exist where you are from, exist where I am from, too. And many of my Kingdoms are like countries in your world, too. Athair isn't just like your Ireland, someone showed me a map of your Ireland and they are shaped identically! Same goes for Caislean and your England..."

[An eye opened to look at him, watching him curiously.]

You have a cataclysm or war of some sort in your world?

"Uhm, more than I can count, to be honest. I've heard stories that elves and dragons and other magical creatures first appeared around the same time the first archmage, Plato, discovered magic. That's also when the ancient empire called Greece completely disappeared, and the current gods first made their presence known...

At least that's what the stories say."

(Cade's never cracked a history book in his life, but he loves stories.)

Tell me more about these stories.

"Well, in all the stories I heard, they were more background than the main plot. But the gist of it is, Plato was a student of Socrates. Socrates believed that there existed an alternate, ideal version of the world. Plato pursued this zealously, and believed he actually was able to see and communicate with this ideal world, and it was from there that he learned magic..."

About how long ago was that?

[These were historical names she knew well.]

"Uhm, almost 2000 years before I was born? More or less? Not good with dates."

Sounds like an alternate Earth.

[She'd dealt with those before.]

"Maybe. Melchior once mentioned something about our world being "incomplete", and that another world, the world where the elves and dragons and such come from, filled in the 'gaps'.

Don't ask me what that is supposed to mean because I haven't a clue."

Neither do I, and if we're stuck here for the long haul it won't make much difference.

"So, I noticed you haven't really told me anything about your world. Or much about you at all, really. I'd love to hear some of your tales, if you don't mind sharing..."

There's not much to tell really.

[She shrugs her shoulders even though that's mostly a lie. Jenny has 100 years of stories to tell. They just almost all end badly.]

I used to live here though. Not Mayfield, but America in the 1950's.
