[After weeks of planning, practicing and trying to gather attention, these two losers are finally ready to put on their concert. The morning of the 1st, residents that Charles and Cain know personally will find an envelope taped to their front door. Written neatly on a greeting card inside is the time, date and location of the gathering, and a little note below that simply says "refreshments provided" because they know they have to bait some of you with food....

A few larger pieces of paper with the same information will be taped to the light posts in some of the more high-traffic areas, just to try attracting a larger crowd.

When the evening of the 2nd rolls around, the church has been left with its front doors wide open. There are a few rows of chairs near the front of the makeshift "stage", which is just the area that the pulpit usually is, cleared out and fitted with two music stands and a small piano (that might look familiar to those who spend time in the high school music room whoops). The area behind the chairs is left empty, giving people a place to stand and mingle during intermissions. While the atmosphere isn't exactly as elegant as Charles was striving for, it's been made a very clean and comfortable environment.]

I'll take that as a compliment. [it's like he's not even trying to control his raging ego right now... but he does have the decency to remember his manners and offers a polite smile.] I do hope you're enjoying the evening so far. You look quite lovely and it would be a terrible shame if your mood didn't match.

I am enjoying myself. The food is good, the music is good, and the company's good. What more could a girl ask for?

I'm glad to hear that. [and he does look genuinely happy, if not a little wistful with his next words.] It's a shame we waited so long to try out something like this. Three years of prom and not a single proper concert the entire time.

A total shame. But hey, there's always next year.

My, this is one of the few times I'll ever be grateful to hear something like that. Another year in this train wreck of a town might be a little much, but it would be nice to have something like that to look forward to.

I, for one, will definitely be looking forward to it. Anything's better than what they played at this year's prom.

What did they play at that mess this year? I've only heard second-hand stories, I'm afraid. I refuse to set foot within the building while that nonsense is going on, since it seems to draw out the idiot in almost everyone.

Not as bad as you'd think, since it was ran by somebody who sort of knew what they were doing. People were making all sorts of suggestions. Either way, it wasn't as nice as your's and Cain's playing.

[ A beat. ]

Overall, though, it was a lot better than the last prom I went to.

Truly? [he looks genuinely surprised... big revelation!! not every modern day party is a total flop! granted if he had actually experienced it himself, he'd have docked it a few points just on principle.]

Ah, that's a shame. I wasn't aware that any of them could be above a "bearable at best" level, but your last one must have been a pitiful sight indeed if this one was so much better.

I know, it's a shocker. I walked in expecting something straight out of Grease.

Well, nobody got almost blown up at this one. So I'd call it an improvement.

Grease, in this case, being...? [first corn dogs and now this!! all his years and he still has a massive blind spot when it comes to American culture.]
