[Rainbow Dash's stay at the hospital has been an absolute nightmare. Not because of the pain, not because of the amount of surgery, not even the terrible food they kept feeding her.

No, it was because of the waiting. They might as well just killed her right there, because at this rate she was going to die from boredom. Luckily the sedatives kept her from crawling out of bed and leaving, but there was only so much you could do to keep a pony who was always on the go to stay in one spot for too long. And what was worse, she had to stay in the hospital at least a couple more days before going home.

This was torture.

Strangely enough, a pile of books had appeared in her room the night before. It seemed to be a series revolving around a pony named Daring Do and her adventures in search of rare treasure. At first Rainbow Dash ignored the books for a while, reading was for eggheads after all, and she was definitely not some egghead. That kind of reading stuff was more like something Twilight would do, not her. But after a few hours set in and Rainbow Dash was quickly succumbing to boredom, she reluctantly picked up the book called "Daring Do and the Quest for the Sapphire Stone" and started to read the first few pages out loud.

Much to her surprise, she found herself enjoying the book the more she read it, her voice becoming more and more enthusiastic and animated with each page she read.]

As Daring Do sank quicker into the sand trap, she realized this could be her last. Come on Daring Do, you can totally get out of this one!

[But unfortunately for Rainbow Dash, she's so involved in her book that she doesn't notice anyone else approaching.]

[Not like Shadow's the easiest person to notice anyway. But suddenly he's there, leaning against the wall and smirking a bit.]

Keeping yourself busy?

Whu-!

[Rainbow Dash tosses the book in the air, before fumbling to catch it because oh god her book.

And then she stuffs it under her pillow. What book, there was no book here you're seeing things.]

H-hey Shadow.

Hey.

[He heads over to her---It's so much easier now that he doesn't have wheels for legs.]

You look rested.

Y-yeah, well it's not like this dumb place can keep me down for too long!

So how ya been?

Better.

[And he'll leave it at that. Last thing he needs is Dash laughing about the details of his surgery.]

I found one of your friends shortly after they took you in for surgery. Rarity.

Y-you did?

[She tries to not look too worried, but...]

What happened to her?

She wasn't well.

[He won't go into detail, though.]

But I was able to get her to the hospital in time. She's fine now.

[And as much as it's a blow to her pride to say that, it's not something she can just brush off either.]

[It's really not something that can be brushed off. But that won't stop him from trying.]

A promise is a promise. You don't owe me anything.

[Barton had to head back to work or face droning. Doing some rounds as a candy striper, she passes Dash's room... stops, and backs up.

There's a rainbow-colored pony reading a book in there. Out loud.

Hi, have a spectator.]

[And she's continuing her reading, completely engaged by her new book.]

Aw man, snakes too?! Come on Daring Do, figure this one out! You can't let some stupid trap like that be the end of you!

[She leans against the door, listening again for a few more moments before chiming in.]

So? Does she make it?

[Rainbow Dash looks startled before laying the book down in a way to make it look like she wasn't completely engaged in said book only a few seconds ago.

It's pretty obvious she looks embarrassed though, so time to act cool.]

T-tch, why wouldn't she? I bet she could make it out of there no problem!

[Though she actually doesn't know what happens and every second she's not reading what happens next is killing her...]

"You bet"? So ya don't know?

(Oh hey, it's this guy! He heard about a pony being taken to the hospital and just had to make sure she was alright.

He knocks on the door, carrying a brown paper bag filled with apples in the other arm. Just gonna go ahead and open the door and sigh of relief, she's here and she's looking better.)

Hi there. You look much better today.

[And just like with everyone else who's caught her while reading, Rainbow Dash's first reaction is to fumble with the book before quickly stuffing it under her pillow as if it never existed in the first place.

And then she gives him a nervous grin.]

H-hey there! Wow, you really stopped by!

(Totally gonna play along and pretend he didn't see that book. Maybe not the pile near her, either; he eyes it, but does nothing more than that. Either way, it's a warm smile that matches her grin.)

I wanted to make sure you were alright. I brought you some apples, in case this place tries to serve you something grotesque; I grew them myself.

I hope I'm not interrupting or anything like that.

[What pile? Oh you must mean that stack of books Rainbow Dash totally didn't mean to get. Psh, maybe she'll just pawn them off on someone else it's not like she wants to read them or anything ~~even though she's dying to find out what happens to Daring Do.~~

I-interrupting? Nah! I wasn't busy or anything.

[And then she eyes all those apples. Which look far more delicious then any of the hospital food she's had to eat.]

You really brought those for me?

(Yes, that very same pile.)

Ah, if you say so, then that's what is true.

(And the aforementioned bag of apples is placed beside Raindow's bed, free for her to dig through, answering her question with a nod.)

Every apple in that bag is yours. Hopefully, they'll help bring you back to your full strength.

[Mesousa had come in to see how Dash was doing, but since she was so into the book he hadn't wanted to interrupt her, so he is just silently standing at the end of the bed, waiting to see if Daring Do can get out of this one.]

[And because she's too involved in the book, she doesn't noticed Mesousa yet. But she's happy to narrate the rest of the book, which is sounding more and more like some kind of Indiana Jones-esque adventure.]

With sand and snakes all around her, Daring Do realized she would need some quick thinking to get outta this one...

[This is enough to make the bunny gasp in shock at Daring Do's situation.]

Wha- snakes?! Noooo!

[And she drops the book, startled.]

W-wha?! Who's there?!

O-oh, it's just me, I-I didn't mean to interrupt you, I-i just wanted to see how you were doing after what happened the other day. I can leave if it's too much of a bother...

Huh? Oh uh, sorry, you just kinda startled me.

[...Normally she'd be feeling awkward about being caught reading, but she didn't think Mesousua was gonna run around telling everyone he knew.

She pats an empty spot on the bed with one of her hooves.]

You like the story so far, huh? I still gotta finish it, you know.

[Mesousa will totally not tell anyone, but he used to work in a school so seeing people reading isn't that odd to him anyway! The rabbit climbs over tot he side of Dash's bed and, after a long and arduous struggle, climbs up and sits down with a small squeak.]

Y-yeah! It's very exciting, but snakes are terrifying! I hope she'll be ok!
