[ To be honest, Akaya is the last person Niou wants to see here.

Not because he hates him. He doesn't, actually, despite how much he teases and picks on him. It's quite the opposite. He likes Akaya, and really doesn't want to see him in a place like this.

There isn't anything he can do about it, though. He'll just have to deal with being Akaya's keeper, since he's the only other one here. Not a responsibility he ever thought he'd have, but. If Yukimura were ever to come back, or if Sanada arrived, and Akaya had managed to get himself killed a dozen times, Niou's pretty sure the blame would fall on him.

So making sure Akaya doesn't piss off too many people is a thing he'll have to start doing.

In the meantime, though, he'll just play tennis against the wall because everyone in town sucks. ]

[Arriving here and learning about the place had been most what Akaya had been doing for some time. There was a lot of information and a lot things he didn't understand. It was all too much for him to handle... but he had to get used to it somehow or things would get too difficult.

He'd need help with that, he admitted. Niou-senpai was here, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad? You could also play tennis, which was always a plus.

For now he's just going to hope that tennis will improve his mood, so he's arriving at the rec center (after some time searching and getting lost).

... though he should have figured Niou's going to be there, too. Not that he minds. Tennis is more fun with opponents that actually know how to play.]

Need an opponent, senpai?

[ Okay. So maybe not everyone in town sucks, now that Akaya's here.

The next time the ball comes at him, he catches it in his free hand, then tosses it behind his back towards Akaya. ]

Sure thing, kid. If you think you can keep up.

[ Tennis is a good distraction from the town. Sometimes, Niou can lose himself in it enough to forget that he's even in Mayfield. ]

[Akaya catches the ball and grins.]

I wonder which of us will have problem keeping up. [He'll throw the ball and catch it a few times.] I'm not going to hold back.

[ Twirling his racket in his hand, Niou moves to one side of the court. ]

Better not. But you're gonna get your ass kicked, either way.

We'll see about that.

[He wasn't going to lose to Niou. It had been a while since he had a match against this senpai (and most likely even a longer while for Niou) so it was rather exciting to be playing against him again.

Normally Akaya would be announcing he'd beat his opponent in fifteen minutes... but against the Rikkai regulars he knew it wasn't that easy. So he didn't.

Instead he'll be serving with a powerful serve.]

[ It's been a while since Niou's played anyone. He certainly hasn't played a serious match since Yagyuu left, and that was a while ago. He's very glad he didn't let himself get out of practice.

Falling back into old habits is easy. He returns the serve with a hard hit of his own, aiming for a cross-court shot. ]

[At least Niou will be having a decent partner to play with from now on. Akaya's going to spend most his days on the courts anyway, so he'll be available at anytime. At least that's the plan.

Of course right now, he'll need to focus on the match so he won't get his ass kicked, right? So he'll run to return the shot. He wouldn't probably need to, but it's a warm up at the same time.]

[ For now, at least. There's no telling when Akaya will leave. People do it every day, with no warning. It's one of the thing Niou hates the most about this town, people disappearing. He doesn't like to think about it, though, so he won't.

Instead, he concentrates on the match. He returns the ball with an easy lob. He's not playing very aggressively right now. ]

[Well, at least for the days he is going to be there, he'll give Niou some tennis company. That's something at least.

And the lob turns into a smash - a normal one, since Akaya's aggressive tennis won't come unless Niou becomes more serious.]

[ It is something. Niou's grateful for it, though he'll never admit that out loud.

A grin slips onto his mask just before he hits the ball. It's a low shot, one that hits the edge of the net. It crawls partway along the length of the top of the net before pausing, teetering, and then falling toward's Akaya's side of the court.

It's a familiar shot, but it's definitely not his. ]

[Akaya stares at the shot, not really able to move since he's slightly shocked. That wasn't Niou's move.]

When did you copy Marui-senpai's moves?!

Fifteen-love.

[ He's still grinning, twirling his racket in his hand. ]

Marui used to be here. After he left, I started learning how to do his tightrope trick.

[ He's been here for a year, kid. He's had plenty of time to work on new tricks. ]

[Akaya recovers from this shock. Oh right, Niou's been here for a while... he must have had a lot of time in his hands to learn new tricks.]

I wonder how Marui-senpai'd feel about that. Though don't think the same trick will work twice.

Who cares?

[ He steps back, returning to his original position. ]

Serve, brat.

Some people might.

[Then again, he was talking to Niou. Of course he wouldn't.

He'll serve though... even if calling him a brat is slightly annoying, but it's better than any other nicknames.]

I don't.

[ And clearly, that's what matters.

Niou returns the ball with a hard hit. ]

[Of course it is.

Akaya's playing a bit more seriously because hey, he doesn't want to be surprised again.]

[ Niou manages to stay predictably unpredictable. So good luck with that no surprises thing.

However, right now, he's playing quite normally. Matching Akaya's level of seriousness, but isn't whipping out any tricks quite yet. ]

[Easy, enjoyable match... at least for now.

Akaya tries to lure Niou into making a lob, so he can smash and score a point.]<7small>
