Well, Zuko's never been particularly timely, has he? Takes three years to find one kid, takes two days to burn a house down. Hey, he started from the inside, and now he's sulking outside on the sidewalk as he realizes that now he's got to find someplace else to stay. He really needs to start thinking things through. It was supposed to be a dig at the Major's claimed "authority" over the place, but now Zuko is just sort of homeless.

The house is impressively flammable, though. It's hot all the way out to the road.

The Major just stands, looking at the house for a moment. He tilts his head a bit, from one side to the other, before smiling and looking at Zuko.

"Impressive." The humor that so usually defined him is there, no longer like the sullen, easily frightened man he'd been earlier. "How long did it take you?"

"Hardly any time at all! And you're not supposed to like it!" Zuko smacks his hand at the air in front of him, shooting a halfhearted fireball at the burning wreck of a house.

WHY ARE YOU MAKING IT BURN MORE?!

Because it doesn't matter any more! Even if I made it go down it's still a wreck!

[HUGE SIGH] Whatever, whatever, I've slept in the woods before. I don't give a fuck.

The Major just laughs a bit at it, eyes drawn to the fireball as it flies through the night.

"Am I not? How unfortunate. I like it anyway."

Zuko makes a frustrated noise and exhales a cloud of steam.

"Why?! I torched your precious domain!"

Another bit of laughter, shaking his head.

"My precious domain? Where would you even get-"

Ah. Now he remembers. And shrugs.

"I wasn't myself, boy. I don't give a damn what you do or don't burn down."

Well that is...interesting.

He may not have seen you transform, but it's hard to not notice the similarities, Usagi. For the moment as the girl rushes into the fire, the Major won't say a single thing. He'll just wait.

And watch. As always.

[It's kind of a miracle no one has put two and two together, aside from those she's let see her transform. But that blond hair is a pretty hard silhouette to forget.

She's out as fast as she's in, satisfied that there aren't any pets or people caught inside there. For all that she's terrified of the Major, it's not in her to want anyone actually hurt or dead.]

The Major's smile twitches a bit. It's the girl, just like he'd thought it was. He isn't sure why she's dressed in that utterly ridiculous outfit, but it's unmistakably his "daughter". He doesn't approach her, but he does call out.

"Ah! Our gratitude, miss! No one was in danger, but certainly, we appreciate your kindness to check on us.

We just had a...little accident."

There's a lady who lives here and while I don't understand her, I don't think she's so bad. And there might be a pet inside and I really don't want any innocent animals caught up in it.

...as for the horrible man that lives here? I...I suspect he's already outside. I'm not getting any of his things.

[He'll move to follow her anyway. He's a fire bender; if she's going to run in she sure as hell can't do that herself.]

[Later on, maybe a half hour or more, Annie is still sitting on the sidewalk, the rescued box in her lap. It's a bit singed at the edges, but still all in one piece... She opens the top and takes out one of its contents: A Polaroid of a very beautiful young woman in a headscarf.

She smiles.]

[And as she's dashing off, Usagi catches just a glimpse. Suddenly, things feel better. The woman in the picture is clearly someone Annie cares about, and the fact she's gotten the memoir out? That feels good. It feels really good, and she's able to smile brightly before vanishing.]
