[Pokey just pauses for a moment before trying to spring forward to grab Negative 86's wrist. When he speaks his voice is a growl.]

Who are you?

[Because having her leave once nearly two years ago hurt. Having something happen to 86 that might have her replaced/leave a second time after having lost so many more people he cares about, and after prom, would be unbearable.]

[That takes him by surprise.

Even if it's clear it isn't 86, he expected some kind of hostility. Not this...whimpering. And most times, even now, he could still go ahead and keep going strong with his own hostility. But even though it's so out of character for Frances, just the fact that it looked like her....If it was anyone elses' doppelganger he could keep his anger up.

But this just kind of hurts, somehow. And he loosens his grip, but only a little bit.]

...I'm not going to hurt you. Just...tell me who or what you are and what you want.

[She finally stops crying, though she's still sniffling somewhat.]

Negative Numbuh 86, and I don't know why I'm here! I guess the Supreme Leader sent me here somehow, but I don't know what for, and either way I've messed it all up and he's gonna send me to the broccoli mines and I don't want to go there-- [stop her. please.]

[Oh for god's sake slow down slow down. He's kind of just gritting his teeth a little bit as she blubbers on. The pity is starting to wrap back around into anger because of just how...wrong it seems to him.]

If anyone did this to you it was the town. It's some kind of crap it's throwing around.

[Which means you're probably near worthless in trying to figure out what's actually happened to Frances. Which just pisses him off beyond measure.]

Sorry. [She just sort of sullenly looks down at the ground... But, she does want to help him. She doesn't even want to imagine what her positive counterpart must be going through back in her world...]

I've got her memories for some reason-- which is not how the portal's supposed to work. So, I know some of the things she knows. [She tentatively looks up at him.] I know your name's Pokey, and I know she loves ya.

[...Jesus. This guilt thing sucks. He's getting over the fact that it's apparently 86's weird twin or some crap. Evil twin? He doesn't really know, not that it makes much difference to him. She's so much meeker that it's just weird and kind of awkward at this point.]

...That's weird, I guess. But the town had down dumber things. I mean.

[Wait, what?

In a lot of ways, that was the last thing he expected to hear, and the thing he'd like to hear the most. Which is why he can't just immediately believe it. You're some kind of weird doppelganger of her, after all. Maybe Negative 86 is trying to rely on the fact that she looks exactly like Frances and butter him up, using whatever affection he has for 86 to her advantage. After all she has to be smart enough to have caught he at least cared. It could just be a trick.

But even if it is....

He can't hide how bright red his face is turning right now, despite his best attempt to just look away. Those words, even if they are some kind of ploy...there's really nothing that could make him feel better.

After a short moment of complete silence, he speaks up.]

Look.

This place is dangerous. I'll show you where your house is. It should be safe, since this seems pretty mild for what the town usually does.

[Her face is finally composed, but there is something kind in her eyes. Morality might be shaded of grey, but Negative 86 could definitely be considered the "good" twin.]

Thanks. I'm really sorry about all this.

[Pokey just stares, shaking his head for a moment.]

Don't be. It's not you, it's the town.

[And he'll start to lead her back towards her house. It's still sort of awkward and freaky because while he guesses most people would find it pleasant that Negative 86 has such a better attitude than her Positive counterpart, it's kind of off-putting. It just doesn't mesh with how he views her.]
