Sparring "Date"
Who: Cade Masters, Olivier Armstrong
What: Cade invites Olivier over to practice sparring. Tries to convince her to stay for dinner.
Where: 305 Miller
When: May 14th, Evening.
Warnings: Cade Masters
[Cade is particularly excited this evening. Jenny, Karolina, and Luna are out of the house, and Olivier is due to arrive soon. Cade has prepared some food for dinner, ready to be popped in the oven after sparring. The backyard patio has been cleared off, and Cade has made sure the patio lights work for when it gets dark. Cade also has the fencing foils that Hiccup made for him on hand, though he has a feeling Olivier will want to do things the hard way.
With everything set, Cade does some stretches while he waits for his guest to arrive.]

"Olivier! I hope you found the place without too much trouble?"
no subject
You're ready, I take it?

"Very well. I've had some fencing foils made, they're over there.
...I have a feeling you're they type who prefers to use real swords for practice, but I must warn you that my sword is... more dangerous than most other swords."
no subject
[She's more intrigued than anything.]
no subject
Perhaps it'd be better to just show you."
[Cade leaves the room for a moment, and comes back with an elegant rapier and a heavy iron wrench.]
"Watch."
[Cade draws his blade and tosses the wrench in the air. With one slash, the thick iron tool splits into two halves. Cade picks them up and shows them to Olivier. It has been sliced cleanly, as if made of butter, and a thick layer of frost has formed over each piece.]
no subject
That is a fine weapon, and this wrench is far thicker than my sword, which I'd rather not have be sliced in half. [She really doesn't like being without her sword.]
You mentioned fencing foils?
no subject
[Cade nods over at two fencing foils he's laid out on a table, in response to Olivier's question.]
"Ye, foils. I've been meaning to start a fencing club. I figured its a good way to re-learn the sword skills this town stole from me and bond with other people in town at the same time. So, I went to Hiccup and had him forge these two prototypes. They seem pretty well made. Balanced, pliable, strong..."
no subject
Seems good enough for sparring. I will have to go to Hiccup for weapons work every now and then.
no subject
"I cleared off the patio so we have room to practice. After you."
[Cade gestures with his hand.]
no subject
Is it necessary to take your shirt off?
no subject
"I always take my shirt of when practicing. Why would I want to get my shirt all sweaty?"
no subject
no subject
"I didn't figure you for the bashful type, General. I'll put it back on if it is going to be such a distraction for you."
no subject
Distraction? I don't think reminding me of my idiot brother can be called distracting.
no subject
"Fair enough. Any other requests, or are you ready to head out to the patio?"
no subject
no subject
"Olivier, I promise you will always only get the best from me...
Though, I should warn you. The town took away a good chunk of my sword fighting memories. I've been practicing with various people ever since I got here to relearn them - its part of why I wanted you as a sparring partner, but my apologies if my technique is a bit crude."
no subject
Good, otherwise I wouldn't take you seriously. Crude is something I can work with, I do train recruits fresh out of the academy. [She cringes a moment as she pauses.] Sometimes, even ones fresh to the academy when I must help out there.
[Once they're outside, she will take her stance and wait for him to do the same.]

((Warning: Cade has the Blessing of Idamra. Silly coincidences tend to pop up in fights that he is in!))

[Cade smirks.]
"Start with a 5-point match?"
no subject
[She narrows her eyes.]
And trust me, my stamina falls nothing short of excellent. If you have any rules you want to put into place, you better let me know now.
[Otherwise, she doesn't care where or what she hits for a point.]
no subject
"Well, I don't have a protective cod piece, not even sure if they sell those anywhere here, so if groins could be off-limits I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I was thinking epee rules, minus the requirement that we have to duel in a straight line."
no subject
Good, fighting in a straight line is boring.
no subject
[Cade crouches, weapon in the ready position.]
no subject
no subject
no subject
Was that some kind of magic?
no subject
"Was what some kind of magic?"
no subject
[She's going to wait for his attack this time.]
no subject
"I'm not playing. If I had my spells back I would've told you."
[Cade lunges forward in what would have been a basic lunge, but accidentally slips, stomps his other foot down to try and catch himself, and unexpectedly ends up leaping into a full fleche that neither of you likely expected.]
no subject
I thought you said you'd forgotten techniques.
no subject
"I also told you that I'd been training with the various sword fighters that are in town. I'm just not as good as I was."
[Parries again.]
"Also, it's only fair to warn you the I didn't forget techniques that aren't strictly for swordfighting."
[And with that comment, Cade smirks and hooks and sweeps his leg under Oivier's trying to perform a trip.]
no subject
I'd like to see exactly how good you were someday.
[And with that she charges at him again, not aiming to cross blades with him, but to get close enough to deliver an elbow to his ribcage.]
no subject
[Cade tries to rolls with the impact of the elbow, and while he does manage to escape a broken rib, he loses his balance and falls on his rump. As he falls, he tries to grab Olivier to take her down with him.]
no subject
You okay over there?
[The question is asked with a laugh as she gets to her feet.]
no subject
"Fantastic! Hope I'm not being too rough for you!"
[He flashes her a playful smirk.]
no subject
[She gets herself back in stance.]
Why don't you show me your best move?
no subject
I got one trick up my sleeve for leveling the playing field, but it only works on about half the people I encounter."
