What: Mayfield's cutest couple go on the cutest date that ever cuted. Luke buys Kaylee TOOLS. He knows the way to a lady's heart.
Where: The roller skating rink, then the hardware store... then possibly someone's house?
When: Evening.
Warnings: Cavity-inducing cuteness. I'll edit this if it looks like any naughtiness will ensue.

[Luke is vaguely regretting letting Kaylee choose where they'd go on their date. He's never skated on anything ever in his life and he's sure he's going to fall on his rear at least a dozen times. Still, spending time with Kaylee is well worth both a bruised tailbone and a bruised ego so he's going along with it without a fuss.

He apprehensively tests one skate after tying it, while sitting down of course, then starts working on the other.]

Just let me know when you get bored with the skating. I've got a surprise for you for later.

[Kaylee looks up from tying her skates to grin at him]

A lot better than skating. Better than anything else you could find in this town.

[The second skate is tied and Luke tries to stand up but ends up with one skate flying out from under him and tumbling awkwardly back down onto the bench.]

... Just so you know, if I die out there it's all your fault.

[The first part has her curious. The second part makes her giggle.]

Ain't ever heard of someone dyin' from rollerskates.

[He attempts to stand again, slower this time.]

Hm. Well, I'm sure I've heard of someone dying from hitting their head.

[He looks wobbly but he's finally on his feet... holding onto the wall.]

Alright. Are you feeling steady?

[wrench_and_ruffles]

[She holds out a hand]

I ain't gonna letcha fall.

[last_ofthe_jedi]

Good. [Forget a hand, he just grabs onto her whole arm.]

Though just be warned that if I fall you're probably going down with me. Actually, make that when I fall.

[He starts shuffling towards the rink.]

[wrench_and_ruffles]

[Kaylee gives a bit of a smirk at that. That might be the point...]

You'll get the hang've it, don't worry!

[Carefully... stepping... onto the slippery rink floor.]

Who's worried? [SLIP! Stumble! Grabs onto the rink wall.]

... At least I didn't fall.

That's somethin'!

[She's ready to catch]

Okay, if I don't try I'm never going to get it.

But, uh, don't go far.

[He begins slowly shuffling along the wall, gradually picking up speed but still looking a little wobbly and awkward.

Once he seems to be getting consistent forward movement he turns to her and grins.]

See? Nothing to it.

[She's still watching quite carefully. Because saying that and falling seems like a thing that would happen. Also, because he's fun to look at.]

You did.

[He finally moves away from the wall once he's gained a fairly steady forward movement, though the kids zipping past them are making him antsy.]

Come on! [He grins and reaches out a hand to her.]

[She grabs on. This is more like it]

[Now the real trick: Keeping pace]

[After the kids pass Luke skates close to Kaylee and lowers his voice so he's just barely heard over the obnoxiously loud 50's music being played in the rink.]

Have you been keeping an eye open for dark corners too?

[Kaylee giggles]

Aren't I always? But I wanna know what this surprise is...

Just let me know when you want to skip forward.

[Mischievous smile.]

You'll see soon enough. It's worth wai-[and there go both feet out from under him, falling flat on his rear and still holding tight to Kaylee.]

[Of course he'll be bruised later but right now Luke is laughing at himself, especially as Kaylee practically lands on top of him.]

What are you talking about? I meant to do that.

[His playful tone indicates he meant to do nothing of the sort but now that he's here his hands go wandering.]

How long do you think until someone makes us get off the floor?

FAST-FORWARDED TO LATER THAT EVENING

[Luke's fingers are intertwined with Kaylee's as he leads the way down the street towards their surprise destination.]

I don't know how many tools and supplies you've been able to get your hands on but I do know that the hardware store in town doesn't allow female patrons. Can't even imagine how frustrating that must be for a mechanic.

So... I thought I'd help out. [Said hardware store comes into view just a couple storefronts down.]

Oh Luke! This is the nicest thing a guy's ever done for me!

[He grins broadly. When Kaylee's happy, he's happy.]

Really? You haven't known many nice guys, have you?

[He holds the door open for her, mostly so he can watch her. He always thought this was the best part of giving someone a gift, getting to see the reaction.]

Well, this ain't exactly the sorta thing most fellahs'd think of.

[She's practically bouncing through the door]

[Luke just lets that go to his head. Why not? Apparently this was a pretty creative idea.]

Go ahead and pick out a few things. Uh, within reason. I'm not rich.

[He just walks behind her, taking a look at the mostly unfamiliar tools and supplies. Everything here is so different from what he's used to. Not a single hydrospanner in sight.]

[Kaylee wanders the aisles looking somewhat like a kid in a candy store. Only somewhat. There's also an aspect of being about ready to jump him right there by the ratchets...]

I've got some of my tools from home, but I'm definitely still missing a few things...

[Luke watches her with a smile, eager to see what she thinks is worth adding to her collection. He stops to examine the wrenches on the shelf.]

You familiar with any of this stuff? I mean, I can guess what a few of them are used for but they're so primitive. Back home most tools are computerized.
