Just Don't Shoot Your Eye Out, Kid
Who: Olivier Armstrong & Emmett Brown
What: Shooting lessons
Where: Backyard of 1671 Nelson
When: Friday, March 2nd 915x
Warnings: None
[Olivier waits for Emmett to join her in the backyard. She's set up close range and long range targets for him to practice with. Nothing like the firing ranges back home, but it'll do. A small table holds the small collection of pistols she'd convinced Buccaneer to help her purchase before he was droned.]

I see you're prepared.... [Eyeing the pistols on the table, he really wasn't sure which would be best.]

I prefer to be prepared.
For now, just pick them up and try to decide which one feels the most at home in your hand.
[OOC: doing some research on guns, I'll send some links to you in the plurk about the log]

I suppose this one feels fine.
Hope I'm getting this right /crosses fingers
[She holds it out for him to see her grip.]
They call the index finger your trigger finger. Your other three fingers should wrap around the grip, and your thumb should be near the safety, on the side here. Now, if you don't slide down this safety at the top of the grip, you can't pull back the hammer and the gun won't fire. You should always keep the safety on when your gun isn't in use.
For a beginner, you probably want to use both hand to grip it, so go ahead and place wrap your left fingers around your right on the grip.
So, grip, safety off, pull back hammer, then squeeze the trigger, got it?

Yes, I'm aware of the propulsion workings of the gun.
[However, that was just in theory and not in pratice. Emmett nods before he picks up the gun with one hand, applies the other hand and puts his fingers in place. He shakes a bit pointing at one of the targets. Theory in place now it's just maning up]

Pulling the trigger is the easy part, you can do that. The aim is what takes work, and you seem to like being precise when it comes to important tasks. I think you'll be good with a bit of practice.

You can try it with your eyes closed again, just aim first this time, and focus and keeping your aim in the same place. Then, we can work on you keeping your eyes open.

[Brown nods on having had heard her but then looks at her with his big brown puppy dog eyes]

You can do better, I know it, and it's not like it was a horrible first shot. You didn't get the target, but it wasn't too far away.

Why must problems be resolved this way? [Before looking over at Olivier. He really hopes it never comes to using this]
no subject
Because there are people out there who think it's amusing to see others hurt or in pain and some who are greedy and want everything no matter what they have to do to get it.
If you don't at least learn to protect yourself, you will become an easy target.

Alright, I'll try this again.

That was much closer, but you've still got a way to go. At least I know if you aim for something you'll hit it, maybe not in the place you intended, but a hit no matter how you look at it.

There we go, a nice clean hit to a vital organ! I think you should keep that gun, you seem to do well with it. Just practice a bit every week to keep your aim true.

[She kneels and puts a hand on his shoulder.]
Hey, you did good. What's wrong?

[There's a long pause]
Hitting a vital organ.
