DA Meeting #4 [OPEN]

What: Defense Association meeting, the fourth.
Where: Mayfield High School's Gym
When: Thursday, after dark.

There isn't a whole lot of set-up to do for the meeting. Beyond a table or two rolled in from the cafeteria in case anyone needs to set something down somewhere and convincing a teacher or a janitor to let them use the indoor bleachers, that's all. There are places to sit, the lights are on, it isn't cold except by the door (which is propped open by a brick). What more could they need?

So you mean using one location as our own town clinic. There might be some merit to that, but finding a permanent location would be tricky with how everything keeps changing. Wouldn't it be easier for people to contact someone on Karkat's list and have them come to them instead?

Well, yes, but I thought we might benefit from a little more organization than just that.

A list of people to call won't do you much good if you're bleeding out, and the first two or three aren't available at the time. That's why there are usually central dispatchers for whatever medics are on duty, in an official system. If we don't have a clinic... we can at least set up a duty schedule and a central person to contact?

Oh, good idea! Yes, that's the kind of thing I was hoping we could do. Even a really basic emergency response system would be very helpful, I think. And having people volunteer for shifts would cut down on the number of phone calls we'd have to make to get a fast response.

Well I'm up for that. Till I get some stuff back, I'm just a doctor who can wrestle big things.

Y'know, piledrivers, jumping on things, grabbing them and throwing em around... maybe hit something with a chair if I've got it.

I never learned any martial arts, so wrestlin' is where I'm good at doing so. I've held my own like that, so no worries.

Well, it's always good to be able to defend yourself.

Yep! And I'm used to doing medicine in war-torn areas. I'm a top surgeon back home as well. [Thumbs up.]

When you two put it that way, that does make more sense than just calling around and hoping for the best. But we'd still need to find a single location to base it out of. A house won't work.

Maybe we should consider working on building a new location out of Mayfield's supplies. That way, it won't disappear when one of us does. Sort of in the same way you wanted to copy down regained books.

We'd need to find people who can actually build stuff. Anyone can copy a book, but a whole building takes skill. Then there's whether or not the town will tolerate a whole new building, or if we would be able to get a phone to work in it.

But that'd all be trial and error, I guess. We may as well find out.

It is. I do know that bunkers have managed to be left alone when built here, as well as tree houses, so there might be a good chance.

So as long as we find a good neutral location and build it ourselves, this just might work out.
