A Midsummer Night Mare (title subject to change)

What: The girls attempt to discuss the flowers appearing all around Mayfield without succumbing to their effects!

When: Valentines Day, during the "Love is Blooming" event
Warnings: Will contain ponies, pony romance, pony rivalries and pony shenanigans, but mostly ponies.

(Twilight has grown very concerned about the flowers and worries that there may be more to them than simply secretive admiration. She has called a meeting at Twilight's home and plans on ~~lecturing~~ warning the others of her suspicions.

OOC: They don't have to already be there and can possibly meet up along the way or appear anytime if you wish. Improvising is encouraged!)

[Rarity saunters daintily into Twilight Sparkle's house, conspicuously wearing a white daisy in her hair.]

Twilight, darling! It's been too long!

(That's definitely one of the strange flowers that's been growing around, but it's not beyond Rarity to wear one, so Twilight dismisses it for now.)

Hello, Rarity! You're in an especially good mood today! I appreciate you arriving so last minute.

Oh, am I late? I'm terribly sorry. I had an absolutely dreadful time getting my mane to do what I wanted it to today.

Oh no, you're not late! I just mean I'm glad you could get here so soon after I suddenly called this meeting.

And your mane looks beautiful, just as it always does.

Oh, you flatterer. It doesn't look half as marvelous as yours does today, Twilight!

Oh, it's really nothing special; I had to ask for help brushing it, you know, without magic and all, but it's still together.

(And my oh my, that white daisy is starting to smell really good.)

Besides, your mane has always managed to match your coat so perfectly! It's no wonder a fabulous pony like yourself is Ponyville's top fashionista!

(Woah, where did that come from?)

Really? I would never have been able to tell, it's so masterfully coiffed! But that's Twilight Sparkle for you, I suppose - always so calm and composed. I've always really loved that about you, you know. And I certainly wouldn't be half the pony I am today without you, you know, so I really do owe it all to you.

(So...much...praise...Twilight's totally blushing right now.)

I wouldn't be half of who I am if not for you and the others. You've taught me so much about friendship and inner beauty.

But there's nopony I know with as much beauty and generosity as you have. I'm so very thankful to have met you.

[So hey Twilight and Rarity, a certain rainbow pony is coming over for a visit, carrying some roses in her mouth. She's in a pretty romantic mood, what with indulging in some romance with a hedgehog earlier today.

She knocks on the door before calling out.]

Twilight! Hey Twilight! Are you home?

(The knocking seems to draw Twilight out of what ever trance she was in. Well at the very least, something else caught her attention. Only a short moment afterward does the front door open.

And...more flowers...well, there was that many more to study.)

Oh, Rainbow Dash! I'm glad you made it; Rarity's already here (And looking very beautiful) and we'll be able to start once Applejack arrives.

[Rarity blinks, shaking her head for a moment as Rainbow Dash walks through the door. She only has a moment or so to contemplate why she's feeling flushed all of a sudden before she smiles at her friend.]

Rainbow, hello! Might I say you're looking quite dashing today. Even moreso than usual!

[And then there's a knock on the door, looks like Applejack has finally made.]

Hey Twilight! You here? Sorry if Ah'm a little late. Ah thought Ah'd try and pack up some of the flowers to get them out of the house, but more just kept appearing... Guess they really aren't as harmless as Ah thought...

(With Rainbow Dash and Rarity already, that could only be one pony at the door and Twilight has already opened it for her.)

Hi Applejack! You're right on time; everypony else just arrived.

Come on in and make yourself comfortable; then we can get this meeting underway.

Why hello, Applejack! Please, come in and join us!

[Rainbow Dash trots in, the moment Rarity talks to her that's when her muzzle turns a shade of red.]

H-hey Twilight. Hey there, Rarity.

[That awkward flushed feeling is back for some reason. Much to Rainbow Dash's relief, it's briefly interrupted by Applejack's entrance.]

Hiya Applejack! So we're all here, huh?

Yup; we're all here, so now this meeting can begin.

(Twilight clears her throat. Get ready for an explanation, girls.)

I've been asking around town and these flowers are definitely here thanks to this "Valentines Day," which is apparently like Hearts and Hooves day.

Based on my observations, I have reason to believe these flowers can mess with anypony who inhales their scent. I also believe that each flower is capable of different effects, but I still don't know what each one does. I haven't seen any cases of them being fatal, but they are able to change up one's behavior in one way or another.

And thanks to Applejack, I've learned that these flowers won't harm you if you eat them, but I assume it would have its effect on you immediately.

[And now Applejack just feels pretty silly about eating some, but come on! They tasted great!]

Er right. Ah forgot for a moment they could've been a gift from the town, so Ah thought they were just regular flowers for awhile...

Changing one's behavior? But I certainly don't feel any different. At least, I don't think I do.

[She says as she shyly inches closer to Rainbow Dash. It seems so natural right now!]

It's no problem, Applejack; the important thing is you're still healthy and here.

That's the scary part; you might not notice the changes until they've already done the damage. From what I can tell, it's a bit like how Hearts and Hooves day came to be. You know, the very powerful love potion.

(She forgets that not everypony reads as much as she does.)

Tch. Like I'd fall for something dumb like that! Nothing weird's happened so far anyway.

[Rainbow Dash you just did.]

Besides, all that mushy stuff is enough to make me...uh...make me...

[She can't really finish that sentence right now as Rarity inches closer. You are looking very, very lovely today Rarity and it's getting more and more noticeable.]

Make you what, Rainbow Dash?

[Rarity smiles coyly, fluttering her eyelashes.]

[Applejack can't help but quirk an eyebrow over at Dash and Rarity, but decides to hold her tongue. She might just be worrying about nothing after all. She turns to look at Twilight.]

So you have an idea on what kinda effects that might happen?

(It's hard not to wonder what's going on with Rarity and Rainbow; it just seems so convenient, given the reason for this gathering, but Twilight won't be so direct about it.)

If this really ties in with "Valentines Day," then I bet these flowers can affect how somepony feels about others. From what I can see, they might be able to simulate love...

(Then that white daisy from earlier starts up again and wow, Rarity has such eye-catching strut...woah, what!?)

...yes, the flowers! They can mess with emotions.

N-nothing, Rarity. Uh...

[She scoots a little closer to Rarity, turning a little more red. And why's her heart racing all of a sudden?]

A-anyway, all we gotta do is not mess around with just those flowers right? We can totally...um...

R-Rarity, did you do something with your hair? 'Cause it looks really good.

[Rainbow Dash compliments out of nowhere? Now you know you're in trouble. And now Dash is just staring all enamored at Rarity.]

Actually, I've been trying out a new shampoo! It's so sweet of you to notice, Rainbow!

[Rarity smiles brightly, closing the rest of the gap between herself and Rainbow Dash and eagerly giving the other pony an extremely affectionate nuzzle under the chin. If Twilight and Applejack had their suspicions before, they should be all but confirmed now.]

(Oh, they're confirmed alright. At this point, there's no reason for subtlety. Time for Twilight to play buzzkill!)

Girls...you're under the effects of the flowers. Whatever you're feeling right now isn't real.

Yeah, looks like Twilight might be right. You two might want to take a step back before something happens that you'll regret.

[Applejack can't help add in a little teasing here, while she's at it...]

Maybe take a cold shower.

[And Rainbow Dash nuzzles right back, a warm, fuzzy feeling overcoming her. Rarity you are making her blush.]

Oh come on girls, I know what I'm feeling is totally real! And Rarity, I can't take it anymore. You're the most beautiful pony I've ever laid eyes on.

Oh, Rainbow! I feel the same way about you!

[Happy nuzzles all around before Rarity wheels around and flashes an angry look at the others.]

And you two! I'm appalled! Speechless! How dare you doubt our love? I thought we were supposed to be friends!

[Rarity's horn glows briefly, and out of nowhere her fainting couch slides in from... well, somewhere, anyway. She flops onto it, wailing dramatically.]

Rainbow, take me away from here! Fly me to a place where friends and ponies love and support one another!

(That's...quite a surprising reaction. Twilight's even feeling a bit embarrassed, as if she walked into the wrong room at the wrong time. Rarity's so cute when she's angry...woah, not the time for that!)

Now hold on girls, let's not do anything we'll regret later...

[Applejack rolls her eyes slightly before trying to at least reason with her friends in a calm, reasonable tone. Like a concerned parent.]

Yeah, just hold your horses there, gals. All we mean is not to do anything rash until you're sure about this.

I've never been more sure about anything in my entire life! Rainbow's beautiful mane and my fashions... they both shine and sparkle in every color of the rainbow! There couldn't be a more perfect pair of ponies!

[And Rainbow Dash moves even closer to Rarity, almost protectively.]

Hey, our feelings for each other are totally real! And don't talk to Rarity like that, can't you see you're upsetting her?!

We were made to be with each other! It's like, destiny or something!

(Heavy eye rolling matched with an annoyed groan.)

Get a hold of yourselves! The only reason you think it's real is because the flowers are making you think it's real! This is why we met up today: to talk about the flowers and how they can mess with your heads like they are now!

[Applejack is right there with Twilight in annoyance, but she tries to give some simple reasoning one more try.]

Twilight's right you two, how can you be sure of this when it's just as likely that the flowers are also causing it?

All right, then, I'll prove it to you! Take all of the flowers into the next room! That will put this silly argument to rest once and for all, and then you'll see how much Rainbow and I truly mean to one another!

Fine, but we'll probably have to wait a few minutes afterwards to give the room time to air out.

(And Twilight begins moving them on to the nearest room, it doesn't matter which one. The real concern comes from her face being so close to them and she tries to hold her breath as she pushes them away. Who knows what this combination of flowers will do to her!)

Yeah, let's prove this once and for all. Then you all are gonna see how much Rarity and I love each other!

[And Rainbow Dash will wait as Twilight moves for the flowers into another room.]

(And with the last of the flowers out of the room, Twilight returns to the main room and just falls over. All that holding her breath isn't healthy, you know! She's still breathing, but pretty dizzy.)

Alright...they're gone...now just...let the room air out...

(She emphasizes with the flailing of a hoof.)

[Rarity waits, head still resting comfortably against Rainbow's. After a few minutes pass, she blinks as her eyes shoot wide open in shock. Of course, it's Rarity, so she shakes her head and quickly tries to cover it. After all that posturing earlier, she can't turn out to be wrong. Not now. Think of the embarrassment.]

I feel exactly the same, Twilight!

(Her exact face.)

Really?! But...that can't be right! I thought this would've cleared up everything...

[Applejack is a little confused and surprised too, but Rarity wasn't the only one they thought affected by the flowers!]

What about you, Dash? Everything the same as before?

[As the scent of the flowers drifts away, so does Rainbow Dash's lovestruck feelings for Rarity. After giving Rarity a very awkward look, Rainbow Dash also doesn't want to look foolish in front of the others.]

Er...maybe you should take those flowers into an even further room. I dunno if I can really feel a difference yet.

Y-yes... that's a good idea. We need to be completely sure, after all.

Well...I guess it wouldn't hurt...

(So off she goes to move those flowers even further away from the others. Just as before, she's trying to hold her breath to keep from breathing in their scent.

...eventually, they're moved further away. She can't keep doing this...)

Okay...how...about now...?

[Meanwhile, while Twilight has gone to move the flowers again, Applejack has opened the windows to get some fresh air in the room. Hopefully not for too long though, it is still pretty cold out after all.]

Alright, that should clear the air now as well. How is that?
