Beneath the Rubble Forward dated to Monday
Who: Fujino Asagami and Varon
What: Smelling daisies?
Where: Mayfield High
When: Monday Morning
Warnings: Varon's mouth?
Varon's soccer letterman's jacket was the only thing protecting his arms since cutting off the sleeves of his shirts his first day arriving in Mayfield. The shirts fit but the sleeves were much too right to be comfortable. He had no problems with the jacket. Since that was the only thing in his closet that worked for his purposes, he simply wore what was comfortable.
In one hand he had a satchel that contained his books, a change of clothes for gym and his gym shoes, he didn't think of anything else he could be missing. He head out of his house and decided that a good walk was needed. He could have driven himself but his not!father needed the car for work. As part of the agreement, he complied with the rules if only to keep his not!little sister safe.
It was the smaller ones that always suffered the most. It was times like this that he wished he still had his motorcycle. That will change once he understands how things operate. For now, he'll play the role and be done with it as soon as he had the chance. At least now he didn't have to worry about Dartz and his control over the teen.
He reached Main Street and started heading down the path to the school. He didn't know a lot of people here and his snarky attitude often rubbed people the wrong way. Upon hearing the good morning's and ignoring the waves that people gave, he went about his business as if they were invisible.
Inside, he was nervous as hell. Valentine's Day reminded him of Mai and he wasn't about ready to move on just yet. He saw couples walking hand in hand and smiling at each other. It struck a mild cord within him that it was just too soon.
Upon reaching the school yard, that was when his nerves really started to hit. He wasn't scared to be here among his peers. It was more along the lines of what he would do if and only if someone said the wrong thing. He took in a deep breath and closed his eyes. He's the star athlete according to what he saw on the mantle. All the soccer trophies and medals in his room suggested that he was very good at what he did and he was part of a team. He was supposed to maintain a presence that gave everyone the impression that he was in complete control. He certainly wasn't feeling it today.
He hadn't made a single step into the yard...he only stood there and watched as if he was waiting for anything familiar.

As she arrived at the schoolyard, the pull in her heart became stronger. She suddenly stopped in her tracks to look around, a gut-feeling telling her that it might be sooner then she had thought.

He slowly approached Fujino. What was this feeling? Of course he knew. He felt it before. Now he has a reason to put it together.
"You know, it's funny. Never thought I'd say this but...um...I'll walk ya to class."
no subject
"O-oh, that's all right! You don't have to if you don't want to, I mean I don't mind walking by myself..."
She trails off, not wanting to fumble anymore with her words as she clutches onto her bag tightly, giving him a tiny smile.
"But, um...I guess I would like that, so thanks."
no subject
Why was he getting so excited over walking her to class? He shrugged quickly, coughing with his eyes to the sky. "Right. Well, let's get goin'."
He was a lot more confident than he should have been but it was just spending time with her that he was feeling so happy with. "You know, I never really thought much on it but the flowers...they're kinda pretty today."
Kinda? Is he really talking about the flowers? Okay, someone drugged the coffee. Fujino was looking very cute just then clutching her bag. "Uh...you can relax. I don't bite."
no subject
Still rather hesitant, she eventually loosens up on her bag and goes over to him, her heart still aflutter, while the butterflies in her stomach increased.
"So, ah...how do you like the place so far?" she asked. Did it always feel that awkward walking this close with someone? Not that she can recall, but if anything, the walk to class seemed like a million miles right now.
no subject
He felt really off, really awkward but it was better to hide it with a little honest bravado. Every step seemed like a phase in time had shifted to slow down just a little more. It was a strange feeling now that he never felt anything like it before.
"It's not so bad...maybe a little on the weird side but once you get past the drones and how they operate, it's doable." He said coolly with a shrug.
A couple of the drone girls swooned as he walked by with Fujino that earned jealous glances. Varon paid them no attention. He would rather shoot himself in the foot than be with anyone that would use him to gain a name for themselves.
no subject
She handed it over, as if her bag was a delicate package, before turning to face straight ahead. Hands clutched together and holding herself high, she tries as best as she could to keep down her nervousness. Admittedly, the stares from some of the drones they went by weren't helping a bit, but it was more or less easy to ignore them.
"It's Fujino." she replied, even if it was a few minutes later. "Asagami Fujino. But, uh, if it's a mouthful for you, you're free to call me whatever you want."
no subject
He hefted her bag over his shoulder, not minding the extra load in the least. "Wonder what it's like." He looked back up at the school. It seemed like forever since he was involved in any activities on such an intricate social level even if it was just school.
no subject
It'd be a lie to say that she wasn't at least a tiny bit happy about it. Maybe it was the daisies, but for all it's worth, a compliment coming from someone else other then the people who would usually praise her was quite nice.
Not that she said anything about it, as her face simply turned red enough to think it'd belong in a tomato field.
"O-oh. Thanks," she murmured, before raising a brow. "What's what like?"
no subject
"Oh, I was meanin' school...well, high school anyway. It's my first time goin'." He wasn't entirely sure if he was going to like it or not. He does remember the stories from those prisoners that went and none of them offered much promise.
no subject
First time? Probably must've been home-schooled, she had concluded.
"High school isn't all that different from middle and elementary, really. I mean, aside from an increased load of homework, it shouldn't be too hard if you pay attention to the lessons." she replied nonchalantly.
no subject
His face falls flat. He didn't like either elementary or middle school because of the awkwardness of being an orphan among those with families. Growing up very poor really gave him a sour taste in his mouth about being among peers again only this time the family unit isn't really his even if it was borrowed.
"So, do they still do that stupid thing where everyone has to go up in front of the class to introduce themselves when a newbie shows up?" He was really hoping that the answer would be no. Still, with Fujino with him, it might not be all that bad.
no subject
She simply shrugged.
"It all depends on the class, really. Some of them do, and some of them don't."
Finally turning towards him, she was a little surprised on how he looked.
"Is something the matter, Varon?"
no subject
He reached for her hand, his heart pounded hard in his chest. It was an impulse that somehow made everything feel so much better and a lot less harsh to the reality that surrounds them.
"I hope you're there...it'll make it easier."
no subject
"...yeah. And, if even I'm not, I'll still be with you in some way. Count on it."
no subject
Hoping that there's some similarity, he listened carefully.
no subject
Her mouth curved into a tiny pout.
"Hmm. Only two classes together...I was hoping for a bit more."
no subject
He looked at Fujino's face again and gave a small smile. "At least we won't have to wait too long after school or hunt for each other. I'll skip gym to have lunch with ya. I make that up anyway with soccer practice."
no subject
She bristled a bit. No one had ever went that far to be with her. Even if a tiny part of her was happy, her logical side wouldn't allow it.
"You don't have to skip your class just for me! It'll be fine, really!"
She'd have said more, but it wasn't long before she caught sight of the door to their homeroom.
"Oh, there it is! You want to go in first or...?"
no subject
He was already wrestling two bags and nearly tripped just to reach the door.
"What's wrong with skippin' gym?" He was pretty much confused at this point when he followed her inside the class. "It's just gym...right?"

He leaned forward and propped his chin with his hand. "Aw, man that sucks."
