[ Air-quotes will not suffice. Nanoha contains the skeptical feeling, and will also not point out her prior introduction call.

There are more important things at hand. ] Of course. The town happens to have arranged us to be neighbors. [ With a smile to Hayate. ] —which is something we have thought about for a while, but never managed to go through with in the past. It is convenient in its own way, even if I do not live near or with my actual family.

[ Back to Bazett. ] What about you? I have heard there are others here from your world, as well.

Well that's one convenient thing. Though you guys are settled in pretty nicely back home, so I wouldn't want to intrude too much. And here we're able to have a little fun once in a while.

[answerer_sword]

[She looks toward Nanoha.]

Most of the people from my world are either my allies, or they are neutrals. One of my allies, Lancer, happens to be your neighbor as well. The only true enemy I had was Caster, but fortunately, he has been permanently droned.

[She turns back toward Hayate and gives her a small smile.]

Going off of what I have heard, I hope this "fun" does not demolish both of your houses.

Oh, Hayate would never dare dream of it. [ Isn't that right, dear friend of hers? ] Though it makes me wonder what you have heard...

As I understand it, Bazett, you have some involvement in the order of things when it comes to magic and the like. Is that correct?

[ASDsdfsdfdfs Nanohaaaaaaaa!] I wouldn't at that. I just try to peddle accurate information. [Mostly.]

Yes, Hayate has already told me about how careful she has to be with her attack power. I trust her to control herself, at least.

[However, she has little knowledge about what Nanoha can do or is willing to do.]

And to answer your question, Commander, it is indeed correct. I was an Enforcer for the governing body of magi, the Mages' Association, of my home world. Right now, Hayate counts as my superior and her orders are to aid any magic users here should they require it.

[ ...oh she and Hayate are definitely going to have a long, private chat after this. Nanoha understands she has arrived in the midst of a long-running situation but, honestly, being blindsided by so many important revelations one after the other...

Well. It's unprofessional. ] Has Hayate been working on her self-control? That's a good thing.

[ Holding up her finger. ] Na-no-ha~. If anything, you would have to call me "Captain", and I just won't have it! [ Smiling. ] Just how, exactly, do you consider yourself an aid to those with magic skills and knowledge?

Most of my self control. I've been blindsided by domestication.

[Bazett looks over at Hayate, puzzled over why the other woman looks so nervous.]

She has made the conscious decision to not use any magic until she
regains Reinforce.

[She gives a quick nod to Nanoha.]

It...sounds a little too familiar, but I suppose I can try to do that. I am trying to aid other magic users by providing them with whatever information they need about the town, as well as protecting them in case of danger.

Well, whichever is most comfortable for you. [ A wink. ] Be careful, or I might have you filling out reports.

[ Though on to serious matters. ] Information is always welcome, so I am sure that anyone would be glad of that; magic user or not. The "protection" part is what I am most interested. Not just your skills, but what you deem as a threat to someone who has skills of their own. [ To be blunt: ] What is your vested interest in their safety?

[Which she can't. Rein is a living person. she's appable]

Yeah I'll have to wait a bit.

Threat? Usually the monsters created by the town. Other magic users who have powers at my level are also threats if they go rogue and start slaughtering innocents.

[As for her vested interest, that is a difficult question.]

I...I have a duty to preserve some semblance of order. I also wish to aid any potential allies in case I have need for their help in the future.

[She looks over to Hayate.]

Hopefully, not for too long.

Mm. [ That little hum is confirmation that she hears and understands the other woman. Perhaps the others have had different experiences, but she can't very well discuss that without giving away that she has, indeed, heard about Bazett from others.

It's a precarious position, being a diplomat. Nanoha wants to help the others come to an understanding, but when the two sides see so differently... ] It sounds like a noble cause. I would help out, but as you might expect from a new arrival, I have little in the way to offer in terms of backup, except consultation.

Any consultation is needed anyhow. There's some organized groups here, but they're also trying to slowly break free. I don't want to get involved just yet to be honest, since I'm missing so much power.

Hayate is right. The consultation would be much appreciated.

[Though she has plenty of power, she lacks in diplomacy.]

Especially if you are good with negotiating or planning.

[guiding_starlight]

[ A confident smile. ] I have some experience in those areas, as well as education and guidance. I was in the Air Tactical Instructor Corps for many years, and provide consultation even when on other assignments.

[lil_tanuki]

She's the best. Nanoha's really good at making people listen.

[Bazett looks over at Nanoha.]

Then...perhaps you can give me some advice.

[ Tiny, bashful smile for Hayate. ] I wouldn't say "the best"...

I'd be glad to do what I can, Bazett.

Great, it sounds like we're all settled then! We should really keep looking around too.

Should we all accompany each other? Or should we separate?

[The last thing she wants to do is to have Nanoha or Hayate next to her when she is exploring the "escape tunnels".]

I won't impose. You two go on ahead — I'll keep an eye out for Fate and make some rounds with her. I believe I saw Kyouko here as well, so I had best make sure she is safe.

Ah! Crap, I remember I wanted to go check on Sasami as well. I'd better split up too actually, and look for her. Keep in touch though.

And I need to...wrap up my business. Before I leave, can you tell me who Kyouko and Sasami are?

Kyouko Sakura is her full name. She is one of the children in my care at my house, here. [ It sounds much better than calling her one of her "not actually daughters", for she doesn't want to cheapen the idea. ] She has long red hair tied in a ponytail, and quite the appetite.

Sasami Masaki is the girl in my house now as well. She's a real sweetie. She's a good cook too and has blue hair.

I will keep an eye out for both of them and tell them that you are looking for them
