[ Lunch today was simple triangle sandwiches, no crust. All the meals lately have been very simple. As was the norm after the really emotional incidents, Meiling just didn't have her heart in her work. Thankfully, the school vacation precluded her from doing much of anything outside of the house, so she could lock herself away with her newly acquired comics from home and not have to face what had happened.

It isn't as if she was neglecting others; not exactly. Just... making less chances for conversations that could turn awkward.

She's just finished washing the dishes and her hands, too. Meiling she her apron and untied her hair so she could flop down on the couch and relax. She wasn't alone on that couch, though... ]

[ ...the frustrating part of having those comics back wasn't that Mayfield was running dry on meaningful gifts from home. No, she was somewhat thankful, since that meant less surprises that could be thrown her way.

No. Meiling was bothered by the fact that they were the ones she had borrowed and thus, despite the genre being more her speed, the language used inside was still relatively complex.

She could turn to her friend for help, but... she's been all but avoiding her lately, except for meals and other household chores. Meiling hasn't even pestered the wizard to go exercising with her, lately, which is even more unusual.

But there she sat, parked with her back to Patchouli's door, a comic in her hand as she contemplated knocking and asking for help. How long has she been there — minutes, or hours? She wasn't paying attention and, in fact, she was even drifting off a bit. ]

[Indeed. There was also a lump of blankets on the couch--that immediately started squawking when the springs creaked and the cushion shifted and some feet came down on it even though that...didn't hurt at all.

...it's also apparently trying to bite one of Meiling's ankles.]

-This was getting crushingly awkward. And neither one of them seemed willing to parse the subject and all of its implications. But... really now...-

I know you're there.

Ah! [ Meiling yelps in surprise, her hand reaching out and yanking the blankets up and off of— ] F-Flandre...? You scared me.

[ Meiling jolts upright and there is a bump as her head hits the door. ] ...ah.

[ She tucks her legs under herself and pivots so that, when she opens the door a crack, she can peer in. ] Hi. I didn't know you were up. [ Ignore whatever time of day it actually is. ]

[then_there_were_none]

[Flandre stays resolutely clamped onto Meiling's ankle for a moment after the blankets are pulled away, head twisted at a somewhat awkward angle. Then she blinks as she comes back to herself. Somewhat.]

Mrhfl--rrrrrrr.

[...she kind of failed to actually let go before attempting to talk.]

[ She gives the vampire a weak smile. Teething had ended a while back, hadn't it? ] ...are you hungry? I can make something really quick.

Mrh?

[NOW, FINALLY, she gets the idea that what she was gnawing on was Meiling and not some strange blanket-monster. And Flandre lets go.]

...what was that, Meiling?

[She'd felt anxious and antsy and restless the last few days, but she couldn't put her finger on exactly why.

Like she was hungry, almost, but they just had lunch...]

Still hungry? [ Again with that smile. She reaches a hand out for Flandre to take, so she can pull her away from her ankle. It smarts a little. ]

[then_there_were_none]

[Flandre smiles back, initially--a little bit, but she does. And she reaches for Meiling's hand to grasp it and wonder at how big it still was compared to her and--

--somewhere between here and there her expression changed again, becoming blank and...strangely sharp at the same time. Her jaws clicked a few times, and she practically lunged the rest of the way there to latch onto Meiling's wrist instead.]

[ SON OF A WITCH ]

Ow! [ Meiling yelled, a bit louder than the last time. She pulls that hand in closer, despite the way it hurt when the fangs dug in from the tension and motion. Her other hand comes up, stopping just short of pushing at the girl's face. ] Flan, stop! What are you doing?! [ Besides, you know, mimicking what Meiling had done to Okuu days prior. This is not hunting time and Meiling is NOT food! ]

... You can come in, you know.

[ She pushes the door open a little wider. ] Okay.

[ Then, on her feet, she half-stumbles in. Stupid leg is still asleep! ] Eheh, how... how are you?

Well. Marisa and I are still together. Twilight's lessons are going nicely.

That's... [ Pardon her uncertainty, but that answer surprised her. ] Wait, you two were having problems?

Boundary issues. Nothing to concern yourself with.

[Flandre flinched at the sound, and again when Meiling's hand comes up like it was going to hit her. Instead of letting go, though, she just pinches her eyes shut and gnaws and wiggles her teeth together like she was chewing at something.

...she doesn't actually know what she's doing, though, and hasn't even broken skin yet in addition to targeting somewhere ineffectual. The longer she stayed clamped on, however, the more numbness spread on the skin she was biting.

The vampire made an odd croaking, growling noise in her throat that she hadn't made before--at least, not in Mayfield. She was thirsty. She couldn't help it.]

Eh? Why wouldn't I be worried about you?

[ Meiling lowered that hand to Flandre's cheek, gently trying to get her attention. Her own expression was a mix of pained and confused. ] Flan... please say something... [ And now she was worried because WHAT IF FLANDRE WAS A ZOMBIE?! That incident was still fresh on her mind, and just because things seemed normal before doesn't mean that this town can't spring surprises on them at any moment.

Though Meiling doesn't know what she would do if it was the case. ]

Because it's a personal matter that I can handle on my own. I do not need to be constantly worried over.

[ She sits on the floor beside the bed. ] ...do you think I'm overbearing?

[then_there_were_none]

[That touch was enough to make her look up. There's a little recognition in her eyes--which are most definitely predatory-looking, pupils narrowed to catlike slits and softly glowing red even in the light of the room.]

Mrh?

[CAN'T TALK, TOO THIRSTY.

Though when she finally does break the skin, rather than two neat puncture wounds there's a ragged semicircle of them, like a shallow dog bite--on top and underneath as far as Flandre's jaws could reach. They also don't...hurt as much as they probably should.

But a little blood wells up from them anyway, and for that the vampire does let go, lapping at them almost desperately. Her mind blanked out at the first drop, though her hands and wings had not; her hands curled up on either side of the bite wounds and her wings mantled partway over Meiing's arm like she had caught something.]
