[ Prom hadn't turned out quite the way he wanted it to.

Alright, correction: It was basically one hit after another, and he wasn't sure what to think about any of it. He'd slipped out just as the night was starting to wind down. He found himself at the tennis court, and somehow, he figured it wasn't a coincidence. So, abandoning his tux jacket on the bench, he rolled his shirt sleeves up to his elbows and started rallying against the wall. Since his left hand was still slightly sore, he was playing with his right, with the same amount of skill as when he played with his left. Clearly, he's played tennis as Yagyuu too much.

He's distracted by his playing, letting all the anger and confusion he's feeling transfer into his tennis. ]

[ The night would have turned out nicely if it hadn't been for Fran and Byakuran. First Fran goes and says out loud what Bel wasn't sure he'd ever admit out loud, right in front of Niou. Then Byakuran had gone and kissed him. And then Niou had, for some reason, punched the Millefiore-boss.

Niou had walked off some time ago, so Bel's looking for him now. Not that finding him turns out to be very hard.

He leans against the bench a small distance from where Niou plays, watching him rallying for a while. ]

[ Niou also had that stupid run-in with Echizen, another thing he was far from happy about. Stupid snot-nosed cheating brat.

It takes him a moment to realize someone's watching him. But once he does, he catches the ball in his free hand as it comes to him and turns. He stares at Bel for a moment before speaking up. ]

Hey.

Hi.

[ It was sort of like that time after Valentine's day. The awkwardness he was feeling. Only this time it wasn't something caused by the town.

Not going to have that again though. He's a prince damnit and princes don't get awkward. Except that's total bullshit. At least nowadays. ]

I don't know much about tennis, is what you did supposed to be good or bad?

[ Yeah, let's go with something totally unrelated to what's happened earlier tonight and hope Niou doesn't start talking about what Fran said. ]

[ They didn't talk a while after Valentine's Day. Hopefully, it wouldn't be like that this time. Not talking to Bel would be a lot harder now.

He grins now, though, his usual sharp grin. He tosses the ball up into the air and starts bouncing it against the gut of his racket. ]

Good. Everything I do when it comes to tennis is good. [ Okay, that's a lie, but whatever.

Nope, not even bringing it up right now. He's way okay with talking about tennis. ]

[ They're already talking. That's already a lot better than last time.

He giggles. ] Should I believe that~?

[ He's somewhat relieved by that. ]

Do you think I'm lying?

[ Without missing a beat, he switches his racket from his right hand to his left, still bouncing the ball against the gut. Now he's just showing off. ]

I haven't seen you do more than that, right~?

[ Well as far as he's noticed, Niou was left-handed. ]

So you play with both hands?

[mathisradical]

Yep. [ He grabs the ball out of the air and twirls the racket around his wrist. ] I'm not the only one on the tennis circuit who can do it, though.

[ As far as he knows, there are four of them who can. ]

Ushishi~ It would have been impressive if you were the only one~

[ As it is, he's at least a bit impressed. But then, he's biased. ]

The other ones suck anyway.

[ Okay, to be fair, all three of the other ones, including Yagyuu, would probably have his ass in a match. But Bel doesn't have to know that.

Tossing his stuff onto the bench, he grabs a towel to wipe away some of the sweat on his face. ]

Really~ You'll have to prove that to me one day.

[ It's all just details anyway.

He sits down on the back of the bench. ]

[mathisradical]

I will. [ Said rather arrogantly.

He runs a hand through his now messy hair and flops down on the bench. He picks up the tennis ball to fiddle with, to give his hands something to do. He came here to think about Bel, and what Fran had said, and whether or not it could be true. Now Bel's here and it's a little harder to think. ]

I'll look forward to it~

[ A lot of Bel's mind is still busy focusing on being unusually nervous, so if Niou expects better answers he'll be disappointed. What was he supposed to say if Niou brought up what Fran said. ]

[mathisradical]

[ Niou doesn't plan on bringing it up. Not yet, anyway, although he realizes it's something they're going to have to talk about eventually. Maybe he'll end up doing what he did last time and tell a story. It feels less personal that way.

He sighs and stands up again. ]

Wanna leave?

[ Don't mind Bel then, he'll be stay on edge on his own. Unless he get the guts to confess, but he doesn't even know how you do that. ]

Sure.

[ He kicks off his shoes as he stands up. It's not like he's used to walking in heels, even if they definitely could have been higher, it would be easier walking without them. ]

[ Watching Bel kick off his shoes reminds him of walking home from Homecoming with Yagyuu. How he carried his heels in one hand and used the other to cling to Yagyuu's arm.

But that's definitely not what he needs to be thinking about right now. It just leads to more confusion.

He grabs his jacket and folds it over one arm before opening and holding the door for Bel. ]

[ It's confusing enough as it is. They sure don't need to add more to it.

Bel picks up his shoes and head out the door. ]

You're sure being a gentleman tonight~ Not counting the punching, of course~

[ That's for sure. ]

Hey, the punchin' was gentlemanly, too. I was defending your honor.

[princecreepshow]

[ He giggles. ]

Don't think I could do that myself? [ But it was probably a good thing. Otherwise prom would have been bloodier than a knife in Fran's shoulder. ]

[mathisradical]

[ They get out of the Rec Center and Niou starts heading in the general direction of the park. ]

Oh, I'm sure you could've done that yourself. [ And got Prom ended way early due to committing murder. ] But as your date, it was my duty.

[princecreepshow]

[ He doesn't see why that would make it end early. T him it'd make the party better. ]

What a good date you are~

[ Because most people don't like murder at prom, silly Bel. ]

I'm the best date.

[ He walks with one hand in his pocket and the other holding the jacket slung over his shoulder.

Byakuran might've been the most eventful thing that night, but he wasn't the only eventful thing. And he can't help but to wonder if Bel's going to bring it up. ]

[ Silly most people, you mean. ]

Sure~

[ Well. He also happens to be the only date Bel's had, but that's a different matter altogether.

He should. Probably. Take the chance and just say; 'hey you know that thing froggy said? It's true'. He wouldn't even have to say it all. Not really, anyway. It's pretty stupid, a prince doesn't hesitate. ]

Are you doubting my date-ly-ness? [ Okay, that's a word he totally just made up, but what. ever.

It's going to happen sooner or later, anyway. Niou's not sure if he'd rather it be sooner or later, though. ]

[ He giggles at the made-up word. That's cute, Niou. ] Maybe I am~

[ Sooner would get a lot of the confusion out of the way. Besides the fact that Bel doesn't know what Niou would answer. ]
