Who: Cain Knightlord and Charles Fei-Ong
What: Killing two birds with one stone IE some concert practice with a side of detective work
Where: High school auditorium
When: Backdated to the week before the event
Warnings: N/A
[guess who's shown up at the designated meeting spot way before the actual meeting time? this guy! surprising, considering how rare it is for him to even manage being punctual. the stage of the auditorium was cluttered with bits and bobs from drama practice and mediocre music classes though, so of course he had to take it upon himself to make the stage presentable. even if it's only a recital round, and not even a dress recital at that, everything must be in perfect working order.
so here he'll be waiting, already tuning his ownstolen borrowed violin up at one of two stands that have been placed in the very front and center of the stage. it's not exactly as grand as he's used to, but it'll do for now.]

Wow... you even set the stage.

Adjust yours accordingly and let's get started.

Ready.

This piece, then. [flipping his own book open to Assorted Classical Piece (that they have probably practiced one too many times but practice makes perfect), readying his violin and waiting for Cain to catch up before starting.]
no subject
Setting his bow in the ready position, he gives Charles a small nod and plays the first few notes.
It's sad they probably make lovely music together.]
no subject
but he'll play through the song as flawlessly as Cain manages it. is there really even a point in doing a practice run by now the world may never know. he doesn't look very pleased for the duration of the song though, and his expression sours the further into the piece they get.]
no subject
Why is he looking so soured? Neither of them are out of tune, they've both flawlessly hit every note... It's only when the song ends that he sets the violin aside and raises an eyebrow.]
Is that what you always look like while playing?
no subject
Of course not, don't be ridiculous. You've seen me play before. [bow still in hand, he makes a sweeping gesture out into the audience seating.] The acoustics in this place are horrendous, that's all. Even that cramped music room disperses sound in a better way. This place is nothing more than a glorified gymnasium with bedsheets for curtains. [charles why... looks like his question is sitting on the backburner until he gets his snobby perfectionist fit out of his system, too.]
no subject
Why not hold the concert in the church? Surely the stone walls will produce a better sound than here? The audience could sit in the pews and we could remove the altar to build a stage for the night.
no subject
he's seriously contemplating that suggestion though, free hand placed against his hip as he surveys the area.] Vaulted ceilings aren't always the best since they can enhance echoes and unwanted background noise, but I have a feeling it would be better than this place. We'll have another rehearsal there to test the sound quality before making a proper decision. The ceiling there isn't too high, either... [kinda trailing off a bit and mumbling to himself at the end there, this is clearly serious business.]
no subject
You're the maestro, Just Charles, you know best.
no subject
Let's hope your suggestion is decent enough. I highly doubt there are any other places in town that could substitute as a proper stage if push came to shove.
no subject
Would you like to go and test it now? Though we might have to put up with the clergy at the same time.
no subject
I don't want to deal with that right now. [whether he's talking about the drone portion of the clergy or the half that he knows is up in the air...] There might be a back room that we could practice in, but it wouldn't give off quite the same sound as the open chapel area. I'm not certain it would be worth the hassle of hauling all of the equipment over there.
no subject
Then we'll just have to practise here for tonight, and try the church another time. Besides, we can still make sure we're in tune, even if the hall isn't.
no subject
I suppose we'll have to make do. We improve the sound quality of the hall simply by playing, so it isn't an unbearable practice area, if nothing else. [arrogance? what arrogance?? he moves his bow to the hand still holding his violin and leans forward to flip through the music book again.]
no subject
Have you picked a full arrangement for us to play at the concert yet?
no subject
I have a few things in mind, but I've not settled on any one in particular yet. I was also considering crafting an original medley from several pieces. Is there anything in particular you're dying to perform?
no subject
no subject
[and then, because he actually has learned how to make marginally smoother transitions than giant over-the-top hints:] -Ah, about the date and time of the performance. Was there anything you had in mind?
no subject
I would suggest Friday night. It's at the end of the school week, but not too close to Sunday that the drone clergy would disturb us.
no subject
[like the town going batshit again, that would definitely be problematic]
no subject
This Friday, right. We could lay on a buffet for before, it could entice a few more people to make the effort to come.
no subject
Ah, yes. The time-tested lure of free food. [he doesn't look or sound enthusiastic at all, surprise surprise.] I'd normally say that anyone not interested in attending the concert for the music alone out to be banned from entering, but that could eliminate a vast majority of the town.
no subject
Perhaps free food will be what brings them, but they could be converted to lovers of music.
